Copper Button

This page is shared with Copper Button, so should there be a separate section–possibly with its own infobox–dedicated to it, like how TNT has a section for Primed TNT? LeftQuadrilateral (talk) 14:41, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

The way the Copper Golem sorts items could be updated and expanded. On Java Edition, per the latest snapshot July 31st, the Golem sorts with no distinction for enchantments or renaming. Unlike what is stated in the article. Also, the golem does not care about what items are in a shulker box or bundle, and sorts like with like (green bundle with green bundle etc.).

Where does the 0.58% chance per tick come from?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 7 August 20252 comments1 person in discussion

The page states: "Once fully oxidized, a copper golem has a 0.58% chance per tick to become a copper golem statue". Now that the Java snapshot has released, code analysis reveals no such thing. Instead, copper golems only turn into a statue when close to the center of a block, which can create the illusion of a random chance each tick. Is the 0.58% chance (on Bedrock) from an official source or from experimentation? Tis (talk) 22:33, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

Replaced with the full conditions for turning into a statue to the page from Java code analysis. The conditions are likely the same on Bedrock, though would need testing to confirm. Tis (talk) 18:25, 7 August 2025 (UTC)

Chests they can't reach

[edit source]
Latest comment: 27 November 20255 comments3 people in discussion

Page doesn't say anything about their reach. I have chests stacked vertically. They try but they can't put items in a chest that is 2 blocks above the ground.  Nixinova β€Šβ€‰T β€Š C   03:42, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

Testing on Java 25w32a I have found this as well, they only seem to be able to look in chests that are either standing on, or at the same Y-coordinate as themselves.
I've also found (but haven't confirmed) that they won't look in a chest with only one empty space above it. Two empty spaces above the chest seems to be fine. It's also possible that they can open chests at Y+1 but the problem @Nixinova and I encountered could have been because of inadequate space above the upper chest, rather than because of being at Y+1 relative to the golem. Further testing is required, and the article should be updated with the resulting information. CanuckMonkey (talk) 23:46, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
I did some more testing, the Y+1 restriction appears to hold even when there are two spaces of air above a chest. I would recommend someone double-check these findings before updating the article, but assuming I'm correct, we need to add:
1) Copper Golems will open chests at the same Y-level as themselves, and 1 Y-level below them, but will not open chests that are 1 Y-level above them.
2) Copper Golems will not open chests with an opaque block two blocks above the chest, even though the player can open such chests.
Not tested: What happens with various scenarios with transparent blocks above chests; what happens with chests two or more Y-levels below the Copper Golem; everything in Bedrock Edition. CanuckMonkey (talk) 00:52, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
Tested on the current BE and found to be correct. Added what we know so far.
New question: "Copper golems search for chests and copper chests in a 65Γ—17Γ—65 cubic area centered on the copper golem's block position." seeems to be incorrect. Copper golems don't interact with chests located at lower than Y-2 relative to their Y position, even if they can reach the chest (copper or wooden). Can someone double check on this? LowerDecks (talk) 08:30, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
Answer to my own question: Apparantly copper golems are aware of boxes on lower levels and interact with them if they can find a path to them. LowerDecks (talk) 13:54, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

Poppy equipment slot? (Bedrock)

[edit source]
Latest comment: 12 November 20253 comments2 people in discussion

What is the equipment slot used by the poppy given by iron golems on Bedrock Edition? Is it possible to make the copper golem render other blocks besides the poppy? And if it renders at full 1-meter scale by default, could this be used to make a basic form of block displays in Bedrock Edition? CubicGREYDEN (talk) 22:19, 4 September 2025 (UTC)

Well the current slot in Java as of snapshot 25w35a is saddle slot and it might be same on bedrock too, and yes it is possible using commands. AT (talk) 17:38, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
It turns out (as far as I have been able to check, may not be true anymore) that it uses a tag to display the poppy, and that it only works for the poppy and not any other item, as well as derendering the poppy while the Invisibility effect is running, but again I haven't checked in a while, so it may not be the case anymore. On Specifying 'Wooden Chests' in the Lede

[edit source]
Latest comment: 8 October 20254 comments4 people in discussion

It might be obvious to editors of this wiki who know the game inside and out that 'chests' refers specifically to wooden chests without it needing to be said. However, someone who does not know the game that well (i.e. people who read this wiki) may not realise this distinction, and could assume that 'chests' refers to chests in general, which would an incorrect assumption to make. Copper golems don't put items into copper chests or ender chests. They only put items into wooden and trapped chests. So the wiki's text possibly misleading readers into thinking otherwise is a problem.

I think it's an easy wrong assumption to make, even with the link to the wooden chest article, and I had this in mind when I rewrote the lede/summary for this article a while ago and specified 'wooden chests'. That specificity in the lede means that even someone who's never played Minecraft in their life would immediately understand which chests are and are not being referred to. It's also a simple, single-word fix for the problem.

So given how helpful adding this one word would be for readers, why can't the lede say 'wooden chests'? Batbrain55 (talk) 07:52, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Because apparently "chest" is somehow unambiguous, apparently, due to that being the exact item name. (The fact that there's a disambiguation page on chests largely invalidates that argument, so I disagree.) πŸ‘ align=top
Sightnado ( talk / contribs ) 07:58, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Shield

[edit source]
Latest comment: 27 November 20254 comments3 people in discussion

If a copper golem transports a shield, it holds it on top of its head. The shield has its function as a weapon.

My respective edit was reverted, "false info". Maybe it is a bedrock exclusive feature? But it's definitly real. LowerDecks (talk) 15:18, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Well, it does hold it like that, but I'm not sure what you mean by "function as a weapon". It does not block attacks (at least in Java Edition). The holding like that doesn't need to be stated because that is the shield's normal item model. It also holds things like tridents (items with different models) differently. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 23:19, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
Can confirm copper golems cannot block attacks using a shield in BE 1.21.124. == Rout | Talk 07:54, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
Seems like I was mistaken about the shields ability to block attacks when held by a copper golem. Thanks for double checking me!
@MinecraftExp123 All items I checked so far are held between the arms of the copper golem, only the shield is held on top of the golems head and displayed in normal size (tridents too, how cool!), it's a distinct difference imho. LowerDecks (talk) 13:46, 27 November 2025 (UTC)

Copper Golem Chest Check Limit

[edit source]
Latest comment: 29 November 20254 comments3 people in discussion

When searching for the next chest to go to the copper golem will check for the nearest chest. It will then verify that there is a valid path for it to get to this chest. If there isn't it will move on to the next nearest chest and repeat the check; however, these checks have a limit. Through my testing a copper golem will only check for 62 (don't know why it isn't 64. It could also be time based) chests, and if it doesn't find one it can access it will go into it's wandering phase instead of going to a chest. This can be a problem because I have a ton of chests below the filtering in my base which is causing the copper golems to not be able to find the next filter chest as it is roughly 14 blocks away with a ton of chests right below it that are not accessible. PugGoesSniff (talk) 17:49, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

After checking 10 chests, it wanders around for 7 seconds and forgets the chests that it already checked. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 02:22, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
I believe what is being said here is that when searching for a chest to check, it checks the 64 nearest chests, and if none of them are reachable, the copper golem gives up πŸ‘ align=top
Sightnado ( talk / contribs ) 02:52, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
Well, at least in Java Edition, copper golems' NBT do not have any way to store the number of chests checked except for the positions of the 10 chests, which can't store more than 10. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 02:54, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
