Fall Damage Rounding Error Fixed

I've done testing in game and after 25w03a (including 1.21.5+), players die from a fall of exactly 23 blocks or more. This is lower than the distance described in the damage page: "a fall of at least 23.5 blocks is required to kill the player". I don't exactly know the technical part behind it so I would need some help with that. Here is a video of fall damage on 1.21.6: https://youtu.be/f1dUq8IWyrE. Attack damage for weapons in bedrock edition is wrong, all tools and weapons are 1 attack damage too high.

The attack damage listed on the in-game item's tooltip is decreased by 1 point for some reason. But yeah, they are currently correct when counted against a mob. Outrowed (talk) 13:59, 2 July 2025 (UTC)

"The following cases reduces or negates all fall damage:" section is missing note about leads(leashes) being able to prevent fall damage. it seems like an entity flying upwards from getting pulled by a leash resets the fall distance to 0, but should probably be properly tested/analyzed from code

Fall damage should include how far one needs to fall to die in various situations, such as when one has jump boost II+resistance IV+8 absorption hearts+prot IV netherite+feather falling IV and is falling onto normal blocks or pointed dripstone.

Per my reddit comment, in Revision 2024-February-20 23:46 the entry for fall damage into lava was changed.

Old:

 "Being in lava reduces fall distance by half each tick."

New:

 "Being in lava reduces fall distance by half a block each game tick."

Changing from "by half" to "by half a block" represents a very big difference in meaning and game effect (despite the indubitably rare resultant play difference... y'know, due to the subsequent burning in lava). The former implies that Δfall reduces by 50% each tick, while the latter is Δfall changes -0.5m per tick. Without a citation it's unclear why this change was made. As the author, User:Simanelix hopefully has some insight into the change. Or maybe someone familiar with the minecraft source code can confirm which is the correct game effect and text version to preserve.

Well considering how many other things I did in that edit, I might have typed "a block" accidentally, potentially without thinking. Or I might have misinterpreted the original text and thought it means half a block each tick, even though that would not make sense in gameplay in my opinion. In either case it was just a mistake. In the Java code, lava reduces fall distance by 50% each tick. This is in the baseTick() function of the Entity class for reference. Rampage455 (talk) 00:30, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
