Linux Command to Spot Changes

Identify any changes in options.txt between Minecraft versions:

  1. Create a new profile in the launcher using a specific version and point it to a new location (for as many versions as you want to test)
  2. Run the game (for each version) and change any setting in the options menu (to generate options.txt)
  3. Run command in terminal: diff --to-file="Path of version to test against" "Path of any other version" --supress-common-lines -yZ (several can be done at once, just add additional paths)

This options doesn't appear to set the max framerate correctly. At all. It's super off. The default value is 0, which means disabled. --Jahus (talk) 17:03, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

History section

[edit source]
Latest comment: 22 March2 comments2 people in discussion

A history section should be added that says when options were added, removed, renamed, or changed in another way. 👁 Image

Oppose. This would be a huge bloat and completely unreadable. Most of the historical information is already in the added/removed collumns, barely any options actually "changed". Simply look at how much options get removed and added every single Preview (like 5 on average), another table copying all those rows but much longer and less readable is completely useless. History section would only work if the functionality of the file changed, and that didn't. MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 (talk) (contribs) 👁 Image

options.txt for the new option "Graphics API" in 26.2 snapshot 1

[edit source]
Latest comment: 9 April2 comments1 person in discussion

I'm trying to figure out what the options in options.txt are that correspond to the new Graphics API setting, but the game won't launch in the new snapshot for me because of a Vulkan API out of memory error (it immediately crashes without even getting to the title screen). I monitored my Task Manager window while I launched the game several times, and memory usage didn't go too far above 90% (not above 95%, and it definitely didn't reach 100%), so I know it's not an issue with my memory. Because of this, I can't adjust the setting in game to avoid this crash and check out the snapshot, but I noticed that it did add a line to options.txt: preferredGraphicsBackend:"default". It would be good both for me and the wiki if anyone could figure out what the other 2 strings are for this setting so I could manually switch to OpenGL until they fix this issue in the next snapshot.

With the second snapshot having been released today and that bug (MC-307320) having been fixed, this is no longer as urgent.
