Well, I can't make the page, but I have a picture of it and Notch's confirmation: https://web.archive.org/web/20230421235345/https://i.imgur.com/JUEYD.jpg and http://twitter.com/notch/status/71522856479096832 --CDi-Fails 17:14, 20 May 2011 (UTC) I've created the page with just Tall Grass (that is what I put in) so you should be able to write in it now. Timberdoodle 18:11, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Using shears on regular tall grass gives you the tall grass plant that you can then transplant. This has not been tested on other variants of tall grass.
Since Notch released a screenshot, should we crop that in and use it as the block icon? FelixGriffin 23:44, 22 May 2011 (UTC)
I want the ferns (The min evergreens) but I cant edit them into my inventory. Help?
Are you using Shears? If that doesn't work, tell me please. :D70.181.68.226 15:40, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Or, if I'm wrong in the previous post, if I am talking about something completely different, tell me. 70.181.68.226 15:43, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm.... It seems that tall grass has not generated on my map. Same with shrubs. I think that's because I haven't loaded any new chunks. Simply looking for confirmation

This item has been called "Tall Grass," but that doesn't appear to be entirely accurate. At the very least, the item is used for both Tall Grass and Ferns, though they behave the same way. Additionally it's got that non-natural variant which looks identical to a Dead Shrub. Anyway, I'm wondering if a better name for the item/article might not be something like "Foliage Decoration" or something along those lines. "Tall Grass" is only part of the story. Xolotl 21:39, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
I think "Foliage" would be a better name, but it really depends on what it's called in the actual game. --Wipeout4wh 12:04, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Has anyone else tried watching grass grow? I haven't seen any yet so far. :P Past experience with new features makes me guess that it doesn't yet. On the other hand, Notch did mess around with mushroom growth in this update, so it's there's a potential he got a similar mechanism working for these guys. --Srand 21:47, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Didn't notch say that that was intended? --Tinaun 05:28, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
hi, was just playing recently, and noticed that you can set Tall grass on fire...
...but not in the way you'd expect. When you set the side alight, it burns the closest block (IE, grass or sand next to it) If, however, you click the top of the grass, fire will burn in seemingly mid-air for a few seconds, then destroy the grass and burn the block below it... --Dark Pulse 07:07, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Yep, I found this too when playing, got a pic of it for my Minecraft 'picture blog' thing. Also, I set a top of a tall grass (directly next to leaf blocks from a tree), and the tree did not catch fire, but one of the leaf blocks (I think the one right next to the fire) dissapeared.

How do you find ferns? user:tygor97
I've never seen one once, they seem to be very rare. Calinou - talk × contribs » 08:09, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
They seem to only appear within certain biomes (possibly just one biome type, actually). When they do appear they're all over the place, but they're admittedly a little more rare. One place I found was using map seed 7770115777688830845, at x=200, z=-217. -- Xolotl 17:17, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Seed "Dud Cave" without quotes, go at X 0 Z 66. Ferns nearby, and nice floating islands... Calinou - talk × contribs » 18:54, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Today while exploring a cave underground I found tall grass growing on a dirt block, I'm guessing this is a bug. The grass was on a block 8 blocks above the first bedrock layer with no contact to sunlight whatsoever. I'll leave it to you guys to put it onto the page if you see fit. The pictures are here: http://imageshack.us/g/215/tallgrassunderground1.png/ Feelsgoodmen 10:29, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Will tall grass re-grow if destroyed? SpikeX 03:59, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
I have tried several times to follow the instructions on this page to obtain the third grass type by placing grass in the desert and using bonemeal. It always gives me the first grass type or dandelions. I believe this is false or outdated information. --Rdh288 00:26, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
I have a problem with grass not duplicating itself; when minecraft 1.1.0 comes out and sheep feed on it for wool, we would have to search for grass instead of searching for new sheep, which is just as annoying. Grass should spawn another grass instance when it rains, so we could make a sheep pen, surrounded with grass, so new instances of grass can spawn inside the pen, get eaten and it will still proc later.79.112.122.167 15:27, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Ferns, as of snapshot 12w04a, are no longer unavailable in survival mode. They now spawn in Jungle Biomes. In the block selection thing down the bottom of the screen, it says that ferns are Creative Only. Does anyone know how to fix this?Louiethefly 09:13, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
ID 31:3 gives you 4th tall grass type, which looks like a green version of dead blush, anyone confirm?89.75.189.14 12:20, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Somebody fix the "{{History||1.0.0|ferns were made available in creative." which appears before (not in) history section. Tried to fix by myself, failed.

The ferns have been marked as renewable since 13w06a on this page. They still do not grow on grass with bonemeal so I wonder, is it true? How do you actually renew them? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Hartspoon (talk • contribs) 23:42, 19 February 2014 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
I was playing in a debug mode world, when I saw something that confused me. There was a regular fern in a flower pot, but then I saw a WHITE potted fern. Does anybody know about these? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by PenguinzroxXD (talk • contribs) at 20:20, 02 February 2015 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
In 1.7 not 100% sure of 1.8 can test but with shears you could get tall grass and ferns but this does not work in 1.9 is there a way to do it if so the wiki should be updated to say i think there no legal way and it only the give command now. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 92.237.5.128 (talk) at 11:38, May 9, 2016 (UTC). /give <player> double_plant <n> 2, or 3 instead of 2, to get the tall fern. In short, it's still a legal block to hold in your inventory. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 17:27, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
I'm confusing on the meaning of "Grass requires a block light of 8 or higher to survive". Does it mean grass cannot survive in poorly lit areas (light level 8 or less)? 135ty (talk) 14:20, 27 May 2016 (UTC)
Just gonna open this discussion. Personally, I 👁 Image
Oppose as they're basically identical and it doesn't make sense to have 3 of what is esentially the exact same page. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 15:43, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
{{outdated}}) to avoid confusion. However, ferns should be kept on this page, since they do exist in the latest versions. The Blobs👁 ImageThis is separate from the above split discussion and is merely about shrubs, the feature removed from every currently supported platform. I, personally, would 👁 Image
Support moving shrubs to their own page and making them as removed. -PancakeIdentity (talk) 23:22, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Why are the ferns, large ferns, and tall grass included? They just redirect to grass. Ioallse-oldccvedcewd 19:00, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
