The animated silverfish in the infobox looks like it's wriggling backward. As far as I can tell, its undulations should be reversed. ~ Amatulic (talk) 02:38, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
There are several things wrong with the trivia statement I keep reverting, namely: "Silverfish are the only hostile mob that exists in real life, despite Mojang not wanting to add any hostile mobs of actual animals." Problems:
- Poor wording. "Silverfish are the only hostile mob that exists in real life." False on two counts:
- They are not hostile in real life and the sentence can be interpreted that way.
- They are not the only hostile creature that exists in real life. There are plenty of real-world animals that are hostile or aggressive in the real world. Some of them are in Minecraft, like polar bears, which are hostile when provoked.
- Similarly, silverfish, while designated hostile, are more like neutral, sitting quietly in their infested blocks until provoked.
- Editorializing: "despite Mojang not wanting to add any hostile mobs of actual animals." If Mojang has been documented as saying this, then any statement, motivation, or intention we attribute to Mojang must be accompanied by a citation. If it's "widely known", then a source shouldn't be hard to find. Otherwise it's just hearsay, no different than speculation, which is not permitted on this wiki.
It's hard to figure out what the point of this trivia entry actually is. A silverfish is a mob that has a real-world counterpart. Several other mobs do. Maybe it would be better to say that silverfish in the game behave opposite to silverfish in real life, which are timid and skittish, running away to hide when threatened. But is that unique? ~Anachronist (talk) 00:02, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

- The first part of the trivia point is very weak. It solely depends on our wiki definitions of hostile and neutral to exclude all the other mobs that are animals existing in real life as well, most notably the spider. Spiders are hostile monsters in basically every way, however the wiki considers them neutral due to them being passive during the day. I don't think this small technicality is enough to make this trivia point unique to only silverfish.
- Regarding the second part, it is indeed fairly common knowledge that Mojang does not want to add any new hostile mobs based on real-life creatures. While I wasn't able to find the original source in my short search, it is listed under the previously considered suggestions on the feedback site. -- 👁 Image
