Anons have no reason to edit this, so why not protect it to prevent possible troubles? --{ Fishrock123 } (Talk) 18:03, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
- Why not deal with trouble if it comes rather than being so sure it will? The only templates being protected are those that heavily impact server performance. -- Wynthyst 👁 Image

I've never liked how this template displays. I think my biggest issue is where the quotation marks are placed. For multiline quotes, the quotation marks begin under the first line and end before the last line. I pulled the html code out of the template and made a couple alternatives. The first adds a few line breaks to change the position of the quotes (maybe there's a more elegant way to do this), and the second also makes the quotation marks a little smaller. Does anyone else think we should change the template? Feel free to add your own ideas.

- I like how this looks, especially because it explicitly does where the quote is. I use quote templates a lot, especially at my quotes compilation here, and at the custom template variation I made at its subpages. I've also seen this template used at the pages linked from it, but it's always been a bit weird how it never lines up quite right. 👁 Image
Support changing this template! -~- Nerdyguy2000 Talk Edits 14:56, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
- This does look better, but the templates uses a table for its design, which is quite archaic. I wonder if this effect can be done by simply using ::before and ::after pseudo-elements. — BabylonAS 07:37, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
So there are 2 issues with the namespace colors. One is probably an easy fix and the other I'm like 99% sure would require an admin to fix, if possible to fix it. So the first one, the color for the quote in the Dungeons namespace is very, very bright. It does not look good at all on dark mode, and Im asking if someone can fix that, since I dont know how. The second one, pages in mainspace that have other namespace colors do not have the colored quote marks, see Minecraft: Story Mode#Synopsis for example. If that is possible to be fixed, I'd like it to be, please. 👁 Image

- You can set the colors on Template:Quote/styles.css by the "color" property inside the CSS rules (notice "Dungeons color", "Earth color", etc. comments). The color values are set by CSS color syntax, but generally you can set them via hexadecimal color (and you can get one from Google's color picker). Anyway, I've set them a bit darker than it was (only for dark mode users), see if you like it.
- Also, the pages for the game itself do not have their native colors, this is caused by the rules only working on namespaced pages (not the game pages, which live in the main namespace). I have fixed that too. Outrowed (talk) 03:23, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- The color looks nicer now, thanks! Also I wasnt aware that anyone could make it work on those pages, because I know admins have to set the mainspace pages to the namespace color, so thanks for doing that too! 👁 Image

- Do you know how to set colors for the Nether theme gadget? I tried setting different colors for its light and dark mode but it gets applied universally regardless if the gadget was enabled or not. 👁 Image
QwertyLilley [talk] 03:33, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- The quote colors of the Nether gadget should be the same as the infobox headers btw. 👁 Image
QwertyLilley [talk] 03:35, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Generally, the way I would find which class is used for specific theme or gadget via inspect element. I would point out a specific element that has been changed by the theme/gadget, and look which classes that are added by the theme/gadget itself.
- Anyway, tl;dr, it seems the Nether gadget has
body:not(.mcw-theme-disable-nether) for specifically applying their styles. Outrowed (talk) 03:46, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
body:not(.mcw-theme-disable-nether) is exactly what I did before but it gets applied without the gadget. 👁 Image
QwertyLilley [talk] 03:49, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Well, I don't think there is a way to do that currently... The
load.php (which where the gadget styles come from) statically write the gadget theme CSS directly in their stylesheet, instead of using class specific rule. So, if you were choosing another gadget, load.php would remove the Nether gadget CSS, and apply the new gadget CSS on the next session. This, unfortunately, removes any pointer for us to specifically target the gadget in CSS.
- It is possible through
:has() selector, as one of <head> element's <link> has gadget-specific attributes, but the wiki does not support that selector yet (because of TemplateStyles' outdated CSS sanitizer). This is what we could've use if it were though: html:has(link[href*=nether])body{/* nether specific styles */}. Outrowed (talk) 04:26, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
