Template talk:Speedy delete

I can't find any discussion about the creation of this. It seems like a user created it, has no approval from any admins, and I don't see how it has any purpose.

"Never use this template if there could be any dispute as to whether the page should be deleted or not - use {{delete}} instead."

No... {{delete}} is a request to delete a page, not a note to start a discussion on if the page should be deleted or not. If it isn't clear if the page should be deleted, then {{delete}} shouldn't be on the page! Thus, this template serves the exact same purpose as {{delete}}. –Majr ᐸ Talk

It started with a request on the community portal that had been there for 2/3 of a year, and I agreed that it would be useful. I thought it would be good for admins to separate pages such as good faith ones and ones that are pure vandalism. The main reason for this was because of all the bad redirects that were made out of good faith but there were just SO many of them clogging up Category:Pending deletion. And I'm not talking about the controversial plural redirects - I mean the ones that should very likely be deleted, but were likely made out of good faith (such as [[dynamite]]). I thought it would be nice to separate these from, e.g., files that a user with an inappropriate name uploaded that had absolutely nothing to do with Minecraft, were not appropriate for the wiki, and were used in the article namespace. One problem that I've noticed, is some users are abusing this template and putting it on redirect pages that in my opinion really should use {{t|delete}} instead, such as [[Dragons Breath]] and [[Eye of enders]], which is kind of defeating the whole purpose of the template and category.

Also, thanks for bringing this up, because it made me realize that the wording was indeed kind of strange and made it seem like any time that there is a slight chance that a page might should be deleted, add {{delete}} to it right away. I've made the template wording a little bit more neutral now, but feel absolutely free to improve it if you'd like. And as for no approval from any admin, I apologize for that, I didn't realize that would be really necessary for creating a template. I'm pretty sure several admins would have seen it by now, though, as it's been heavily used (not saying that this means that all of the admins think it's the most useful template ever, though). I would encourage somebody to completely rewrite this IF they think that would improve the template, but I do think this template is useful, so I really don't think it should be deleted.-- Madminecrafter12^{👁 Image

Templates in general don't need admin approval, but this one by its very existence has created new policy and procedure admins are expected to follow, without any of them consenting to it. -- Orthotope^talk 22:22, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
