I expected a lot . . . I was still surprised with this ! The first one we got was an Amazon special no financing deal and didn’t function. The second one is better than we expected. The picture is wow ! The smart part is actually easy to use and quite wonderful ! The sound, while not audiophile, is very very remarkable ! This is part of our cable cutting project and we are very happy not buying cable tv . I would not hesitate buying this tv again, if I could afford it that is. This tv replaced a 55” Bravia we purchased in 2010, that tv works as good as new and was given to someone who really appreciates it.

Addendum: it’s been a month or so with this tv . . it’s totally captivating with a picture that’s very much like sitting in front of a window and sound (we live in a senior apartment complex with neighbors that complain, a low volume level with this tv achieves realistic and satisfying event) that is almost unbelievable !

I have one wish . . I wish I could turn it on in the morning with one action directly to the local station (on Hulu) that we prefer.

I have one concern . . our preferred (Hulu) station has a lip sync problem and it is the only source that has the problem.

Looking for a totally captivating and mesmerizing experience . . this tv is it ! ! !

Be careful . . . we found that watching this tv is actually better than getting out to reality 🤭

Sincerely . . . a lot more could be said in favor of this device . . . it deserves all the ranting and raving I could produce . . . this IS the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow !

Addendum 1/1/2023 - we went to the theatre, yesterday, to see the new avatar movie. The surround sound was bodacious, however, the picture and sound would have been more enjoyable at home with this Sony TV . . . it’s that impressive . . .

Addendum 1/10/2023 - still enjoying wonderful ! It appears that Sony and Alexa have a strained relationship . . . Alexa can usually turn the Sony off but only occasionally can Alexa turn the Sony on . Trying to navigate to Hulu with Alexa is impossible . I love the Sony and the Alexa . . . I just wish they would communicate . All in all . . . if your looking for a better tv . . . nobody makes it !

The last addendum 🤭 . . We have become hooked on a tv series from Netflix “Longmire”. The cinematography is never before beautifully realistic while the sound is not just captivating . . it’s seductive ! Before we installed this tv , I scoffed at the idea of “2 inch sub woofers”! Well . . . I’ve learned my lesson , this tv provides a stunning, if not mesmerizing , event . . . time after time !

On parting . . . if Hulu would simplify “user accounts” bypassing the need to select a specific one EVERY TIME ! Alexa might be a better control device.

A year in review . . . We would never go back! This TV has changed our lives! The overall impression is amazing and keeps pleasing. This TV has virtually replaced the movie theater! The picture is much better, the sound has all the impact without the ear/hearing damaging obnoxiously loud overkill of the theater. Control and navigating of features and program options is manageable . . . no complaint!

Hulu is more than a suitable replacement for cable tv!

Are you hesitant? So were we . . . with a year of this behind us . . . we are still surprised, pleased, captivated and, at times stunned even after a year!

at 3 am, in a very dark room, I stumbled and almost fell . . . this tv reached out and saved my life . . sacrificing its own !

Fortunately a Sony Bravia 8 stepped up to the task of providing us with psychological support and entertainment ! Everything we said about the last is true about the Bravia 8 PLUS !

Words cannot describe how glad I am with purchasing the Sony A90J TV. This is the first time I have purchased a tv this expensive and I didn't want to buy one that I would regret later on. From the moment I opened the box and set the TV, I have been completely satisfied. The picture quality is phenomenal, the sound quality is fantastic, and the user interface is extremely smooth.

1. Picture: Picture quality is vivid and provides details that were missed or easily looked over when watching on an older tv. As a part of Sony's Master Series, all TVs are professionally calibrated prior to leaving the factory. This prevents the owner from wasting time trying to perfect the image quality. With the use of new computer processing, the TV has the ability to adjust itself according to the lighting atmosphere at the moment it is being viewed. OLED makes a world of difference when viewing content. Whites are whiter and blacks are deeper, without losing the ability to see everything else happening.

2. Sound: The audio produced from this tv has the ability to provide the quality of sound in comparison to a 5.1 sound system. Previously I had a premium 3.1.2 sound bar w/ a subwoofer connected to my older TV and I thought it produced amazing sound. Once I heard the sound quality on this TV, there was no way I could replace it with my sound bar. With the computer programming, it has the capability of monitoring the sound in the room and adjusting it according to where you are sitting. I find myself having to turn down the volume when my kids are sleeping, so they aren't awoken by the action or suspenseful scenes in a movie.

3. User Interface: I have to point first and foremost, the smoothness transition from app to app or when scrolling through different contents is far superb from all other TVs. I find myself hating when I am using my other TVs because of how sluggish they are. When setting up the TV to add all of the apps I have access to, I initially found myself feeling as if it was a little more complex than it truly is. After scrolling through, I was able to navigate effortlessly, without any complications.

4. Casting: I have used Google's Chromecast Dongles in the past and they were always problematic with remaining connected. The casting feature on the TV works without any issues and remains stable throughout its connection.

With over 2 weeks of use, I am impressed and happy with the purchase of the Sony A90J 55 Inch TV. I will periodically return and provide an update to the overall use. If you are on the fence about this TV, I recommend researching this TV among others within its class and then make your decision. If you are still interested in this TV, I can say without a doubt you will be satisfied with your purchase.

This is a fairly expensive television, but it's value for the money. I did have an incident with the remote, in which the television stopped responding. A cold reboot (unplug) did not fix the problem. Fortunately, I have a Sony remote app on my smartphone that gave me enough control over the unit to maneuver to the 'settings' menu and do a factory reset. That resolved the issue, and it has not recurred.

As to the rest, the picture is superb. I use the unit as the central speaker in a seven speaker set up, and it functions beautifully. Sony has added its own streaming service, Bravia CORE, available only on these newer models. It's interesting, but definitely a WIP. The principal feature, an audio-visual stream entitled 'IMAX ENHANCED', does seem to offer an improved picture and DTS sound. I have ordered a few of these IMAX ENHANCED features, but I am puzzled why the unit does not automatically switch to the 'IMAX ENHANCED' video mode, which should be automatic. (Movies in Dobly enhanced mode automatically stream in that mode. I suspect the new streaming service still has some bugs.

Finally, I was curious whether I was actually getting the benefits of EARC sound. You can't test this with a streaming service, as they all use compressed audio. So I connected a Blu-Ray directly to the unit, and thence to the Yamaha 1080 receiver. In the 'audio output' menu in Settings, set 'earc mode' to Auto, 'digital audio out' to 'Auto 1', 'digital audio out volume' to Max, and 'Pass through mode' to 'auto'. Set sound output in the Quick Settings menu to 'Standard'. You will get the Earc benefit of lossless audio.

All in all, the unit, though pricey, is value for the money. Exceptional picture and features.

Coming from a 2018 50" Samsung (lower end model), this is like night and day. It's like I was living in the darkness of TV tech and Sony came along and turned the lights on. Everything about the TV is phenomenal right out of the box and I'm glad I went with this. The 55" was the biggest I could afford of this model, but the A90J series is just best in class. I can't tell you the amount of YouTube comparison videos I watched where they compare TV's and the A90J beat out practically everything.

My old Samsung had horrible wi-fi signal and for a moment I was worried that this TV would follow suit, but nope. It streams whatever I want, whenever I want, with no buffering or drops in quality.

The sound quality is awesome as well. Way better than 90% of TV's out there. I haven't even hooked up my old soundbar yet and probably won't need to until I upgrade to a 5.1 system.

The SmartTV features are 10x better. I own an nVidia Shield so I'm used to Google TV and it's 1000x better than Samsung's crappy HUB software. I haven't even explored all of the features of the TV hardware and software yet because I'm just so pleased with it right out of the box. I have a PS5 as well (in another room), and I can't wait to hook it up and try it one day just to experience how phenomenal the quality will be for games like Forbidden West or God of War. But I'll probably wait until October new game releases.

Anyway, this TV costs a lot and I'm not a rich guy by any means, but thanks to Amazon allowing monthly payments with no interest I decided to go for it and I don't regret the decision. Don't stinge on quality to save a few bucks.

We are extremely happy with our new Sony. It took awhile to find the perfect TV. We first purchased the LG Oled it had a great picture but the remote was awful the center where you push to control is raised so if you have long nails it’s a real issue! And it had a crazy pointer with no way to get rid of it. Had to press it twice to turn off, lots of adds. We tried Roku as a work around but LG wasn’t that compatible with it, the sound would go off for no reason. So we returned it. We spent more for this model but it was so worth it, the remote is wonderful has a back light, the picture colors are amazing! We got the set up upon delivery and did have a scare, our room has a nook that can only fit a 65 inch, the guys set it up and we noticed the legs pointed out making it impossible to fit! They stated it’s the only way to set up. We we’re disappointed but figured we’d have to get a wall mount. Later we looked at instructions and there was a way to adjust the legs in a different angle! Kind of surprised the set up team didn’t know about that. So after much aggravation! Finally happy with a great TV.

After warranty, if you live in Arkansas there is no service for any repairs. I paid $4100 for this tv and it needs repair. I have called Sony and was told to find someone else for service. I have spent more than 6 months trying to get it fixed. I have talked with customer support and they will do nothing for me because it is out of warranty.

I have called every service location I can find within 75 miles of Hot Springs, Arkansas, including the Little Rock, Arkansas area. No one will work on it. Sony televisions are a no service available product in Arkansas.

I even offered to ship it to the factory for service and the representative said no. They simply do not do service work on their products after the warranty period.

People, the Sony A90J borders on perfection. This is my third Sony TV I have purchased from Amazon and the fourth Sony TV I have owned.

The first one I purchased from Amazon was a Bravia XBR HD in 2001. My in-laws currently have that TV and the picture still looks good. Yes, Sony TVs generally cost more than the other brands but it’s worth paying a premium price for a TV that has not only excellent picture quality and sound quality but also reliability and longevity.

Many reviewers suggest using the custom setting for the picture mode, but in this mode through my eyes the colors look dull. I like the vivid mode, in this mode the colors are more vibrant and life like. For example, watching the Netflix movie “All Quiet On The Western Front” feels like I was standing there as a spectator. That’s how amazing the picture quality is and yes, the sound quality is also amazing too.

You want another reason why you should purchase this TV? The price! Because this model is a 2021 the price has been heavily marked down by Amazon. In case your wondering, no, the TV was not manufactured in 2021 The year 2021 is when the model first became available. For example, my Sony A90J TV was manufactured in September, 2022.

I say, if you can afford this TV go for it. You’ll be happy you did.

It’s aesthetically beautiful. Even the two options for using the stand was a well thought out aesthetic decision. Picture quality is beyond beautiful. I’ve owned Bravia tv’s for years, and this one was a huge leap technically and aesthetically. Well worth the cost. The picture quality will blow your mind, you’ve never truly experienced a movie; a tv show; or a video game until you’ve watched/played it on this tv. The color black in picture, alone is perfect, the most opaque-true black I’ve ever seen on a screen.

Oh, and can’t forget to mention the remote control — it’s a huge improvement! The top is a nice smooth aluminum, and the buttons light-up, so no more turning on a lamp to find the button you’re looking for. Plus, the remote works well with Apple TV.

The only qualm I have is with handling the tv— Moving it is a bit stressful, as it’s a bit challenging to lift, not because it’s heavy, but because it’s tough to avoid grabbing the screen. Sony warns that you shouldn’t lay the screen down, even when attaching a wall mount. As a remedy, I kept the cardboard and rubber sleeves, incase/when I have to move it.

Really expensive but it is a great TV. Ran the Youtube videos to detect 'dirty screen' issues and it passed with flying colours; set-up was a breeze, and it delivers a great picture without seeming to need professional calibration. It also seamlessly linked up to my other equipment. It does have one small issue though - it seems to have a pretty horrible file manager that is as slow as molasses when you try to access the contents of external hard drives plugged into it via the USB ports.

Follow on note re USB connection and file manager. I contacted Sony re the problem and they thought that it was because the HD was not formatted for FAT32. THIS WAS NOT THE ISSUE! The problem seems to be that the default Media Player for the Smart TV (Google?Sony?) can not read my type of MP4 files. I installed another (free) Media Player app from the TV's App Store/Library and it was able to read and play my files without a problem.

This TV is fantastic. Image quality is superb. Great brightness and contrast. Come pretty calibrated out-of-the-box (use the Custom picture mode).

It also sounds very very good for both movies and even music.

Google TV is great and fast. Easy to setup.

Overall, very very satisfied.

Ready to go right out of the box, very little picture tweaking required. Switches from cable to streaming platform and back very quickly. One very small complaint: plugging into the headphone jack should not automatically disable the speakers.

Expensive but worth it. Easy to set up and great picture and sound right out of the box.
