Artificial General Intelligence in theory is within the field of artificial intelligence. It refers to creating machines that can perform any intellectual task a human can. This is in contrast to narrow AI which focuses on specific tasks like facial recognition or chatbots. Artificial General Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence differ largely in their functionalities and use.

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the hypothetical type of AI that would have an understanding and ability to learn with the knowledge and apply it to the wide range of tasks much like the cognitive ability in humans.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) generally refers to the simulation by machines especially computer systems of human intelligence. It is a wide range of technologies and methodologies that enable such machines to perform tasks previously thought to require human intelligence including learning, reasoning, problem-solving and perception.

AI refers to those systems created to perform unique tasks that emulate human intelligence such as chatbots and self-driving cars. On the Otherhand, AGI is created to be a copy of human cognition that can enable learning and problem-solving by itself in a very wide range of tasks. While AI is implemented practically in all sorts of application today, AGI has not yet become a reality.
