Ukraine expects EUR 17β18 bln in budget support from potential EUR 45 bln EU tranche β Zelenskyy
Ukraine expects that of a potential EUR 45 billion tranche from the European Union this year, EUR 17β18 billion will be allocated to support the state budget, while EUR 28 billion will go toward weapons production and air defense procurement, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
"We are talking about EUR 45 billion for this year as a tranche, of which we expect EUR 17β18 billion to be allocated for budget support, and EUR 28 billion for weapons production for Ukraine and the purchase of air defense systems from Europe or the United States," Zelenskyy said during a video call with journalists on Saturday.
As reported, on December 18, the EU leadersβ summit approved EUR 90 billion in financial support for Ukraine for 2026β2027. Ukraine will receive an interest-free loan backed by the European Unionβs budget.
Later, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor OrbΓ‘n stated that his country would block the European Unionβs adoption of a new package of sanctions against Russia, as well as the allocation of the EUR 90 billion EU reparations loan, until the Druzhba oil pipeline, damaged during a Russian strike on January 27, is reopened.
