Interpipe acquires AMTP Roman plant in Romania from ArcelorMittal

3 min read

Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has announced the closing of the agreement to acquire the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products (AMTP) plant in Roman, Romania, effective March 31, 2026.

According to a press release on Thursday, the deal is an important step in the company's strategy to expand its presence in Europe and strengthen its position in key regional markets.

It is specified that the AMTP Roman plant is a well-known manufacturer of seamless steel pipes for consumers throughout Europe and beyond.

The press release notes that this acquisition offers numerous benefits to the group's customers and the Romanian plant. Specifically, it expands Interpipe's presence in Europe: the acquisition of the Roman plant strengthens Interpipe's local production base within the EU. It also enhances supply chain resilience, with customers benefiting from a more diversified and reliable supply chain.

In addition, operational synergies are noted: the combination of Interpipe's technological expertise and integrated steel production with the established operations of the Romanian plant is expected to increase efficiency, optimize production processes, and improve overall product quality.

This also strengthens customer relationships: Roman plant customers can count on continuous service with additional support from Interpipe's global network, technical expertise and a customer-focused approach.

"The Roman plant is our first production platform in the European Union and internationally, marking a historic step in our development. It perfectly complements our vertically integrated, value-added operations in Ukraine, strengthening both our geographic diversification and technological integration," commented Luca Zanotti, CEO of Interpipe, a pipe and wheel company.

As the press service states, "all customary conditions for closing the transaction, including obtaining the necessary antitrust and foreign direct investment permits from Ukrainian and Romanian government agencies, have been met."

Founded in 1951, the Roman plant is a major Romanian manufacturer of seamless steel pipes with diameters ranging from 168.3 mm to 406.4 mm. It supplies products to customers in the energy, construction, and industrial sectors, as well as for pipelines in onshore/offshore projects, and traditionally produces casing pipes for oil and gas production.

Interpipe is a Ukrainian industrial company that manufactures steel pipes and railway products. The company's products are supplied to 70 countries worldwide through a network of sales offices located in key markets in the Middle East, North America, and Europe. In 2025, the company contributed UAH 5.5 billion to budgets at all levels.

The company's structure includes five industrial assets: Interpipe Nyzhniodniprovsky Tube Rolling Plant, Interpipe Novomoskovsk Pipe Plant, Interpipe Niko Tube, Dnipropetrovsk Vtormet, and the Dniprosteel electric steelmaking complex operating under the Interpipe Steel brand.

The company employs a total of around 9,500 people.

The ultimate owner of Interpipe Limited is Ukrainian businessman and philanthropist Victor Pinchuk and members of his family.
