Forum:Move gallery sections up higher

This is a relatively simple proposal in terms of what it would change, but not where it would change (practically every content page on the wiki).

I am proposing that we move galleries to be higher up within pages, so they dont get stuck at the bottom under technical details. I know before I started editing and I was just a reader, most of the time when visiting a page I was there for the gallery, and did not (and still do not really, when viewing as a reader and not an editor) care about the technical things like sounds and data values.

I personally believe galleries should sit above video sections, so just above history if there is no video section. That is, of course, my opinion on where they should be, and obviously any and all other location ideas are welcomed to be discussed.

Given that we have a tendency to balloon gallery sections into behemoths, i definitely think they need to stay at the bottom of pages. So 👁 Image

I know theres a stalled discussion somewhere about making galleries smaller and putting the rest of images into subpages, which would fix that issue 👁 Image

 Oppose. A lot of galleries have Mojang images, promotional images, or historical images and those should really be below history, and I think those should stay within the main gallery. There are smaller things to make galleries more visible/usable, like with the "view all renders" links, maybe a more prominent button/link somewhere at the top, and also some more important images in the body.  Comment: I also think galleries are a very important part of the page, imo even the most important after the actual body, because it shows (should at least) how features actually look in-game, not like a render or dedicated setup but how the player actually encounters them. What galleries consist of? Textures, renders, artwork, merchandise, historical images and other screenshots. I don't think it's the best idea to put hundreds of images very high. For example, creeper has ~70 images of plushies and other merchandise. I think textures and renders should be somewhere near to sounds and data values. Relevant screenshots could be above history in some place.

Maybe something like this:

1. Other sections
2. Videos
3. Textures + renders
4. Sounds
5. Advancements + achievements
6. Trivia + issues
7. Relevant screenshots
8. History
9. Other gallery here or in subpage
10. Refs + links + nav

 Neutral I can definitely see the argument the average reader would be more interested in gallery contents than niche technical information, but with how big galleries often are them being at the bottom makes sense.  Neutral I as a user, loved to look at the images and like Amethyst said, didn't care for data values or whatever. But at the same time, I feel like the spot they are in is fine. I also 👁 Image
 Oppose the idea of a separate page for them for two reasons. 1: It will be just more annoying to get to then just scrolling to it and 2: Literally like 90% (probably more) have galleries and moving all of them will take FOREVER. 👁 Image

 Neutral – I've already proposed reordering the sections to make more sense for readers and move technical data down before, so this seems logical to me in principle. However, I'd prefer to have the gallery below the history section, so essentially this would entail moving technical sections down, instead of gallery up – which is what I proposed. | violine1101 ^(talk) 21:57, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
