Move all of these to Version overviews/

[edit source]

Proposed from Discord
The current title may be confused with Tutorials. "Version overview" is a more self evident name.  Nixinova T  C   15:29, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Soft support, guide is confusing and should be changed. Only soft support though because the names would become ungodly long, but I guess that's better than a not great name. - Harristic / Talk 👁 Image

We really should have a better plan for these wannabe namespaces we keep making.  Nixinova T  C   15:52, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
I think wannabe namespaces (I call them subspaces) are fine. Guides are just annoying with names because they’re not just “Guide/Tricky Trials”, they’re “Java Edition guide/Tricky Trials”. Maybe we should just merge the different edition guides. - Harristic / Talk 👁 Image

Strong Oppose They're not version overviews. They are "guides" to the named updates. In other words, version overviews feel as something about a single version, while guides can have broader range of topics. TreeIsLife (talk) 16:22, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
They literally aren't guides though, all they do is list the content that was added in a more digestible format. "while guides can have broader range of topics" but they don't, they're about one version. - Harristic / Talk 👁 Image

They are meant to list important additions and changes. Yes, every block, item, entity and gameplay addition is there cause they're important. But on the other hand, we don't list every single change (like you won't learn some change to command). They are also about every minor update of said theme update. In Java Edition guides/Exploration Update, we list 1.11.1 content for example.
The entire philosophy behind guides was to make it easier for players to learn about 1.13.x and 1.14.x, without reading extremely long changelogs. And it was always assumed (and still is) that we expect players to be on the last minor update of that theme update.
Version overviews is just such a bad name, it's literary a synonym to "changelog", which is what we don't want on these pages. TreeIsLife (talk) 19:43, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
"Guide" is a very confusing name which can't be distinguished from "tutorials". I think at the very least we should rename to "Version guides" GIM Dianliang233 (talk) 04:27, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

Comment - important - Do not forget also that Template:Navbox guides also exists. If this move passes, then the template would also need updating to reflect the page name. Delvin4519 (talk) 18:47, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Support but I might prefer merging this into the tutorial NS. GIM Dianliang233 (talk) 04:28, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
I know this is from over half a year ago, but I 👁 Image
Strong support as it's currently very confusing. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 10:42, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
If most editors don't mind, can I move these pages? -- 👁 Image

I don't think there's a clear consensus yet, but I'm not sure. ‑‑MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 20:04, 25 December 2025 (UTC)

Support the guide pages as of now are quite literally just an easier digestable format of the changelog rather than actual guides. Outrowed (talk) 08:07, 28 December 2025 (UTC)
Considering this is a set index/disambiguation anyway, wouldn't it be the best to just add Tutorials to the list on the page and keep the current name? -- 👁 Image

Support the move to "Version overviews/". –LauraFi - talk 06:41, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
Only addendum: Depending on the scope of these pages, would "Update overviews" be better suited? It depends on how much 1.x.Y content we include on the guide for 1.x.  Nixinova  T ⁄ C  11:06, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
Well, stuff like 1.21.11 is still a version, though technically not an "update" but rather a "drop" if we are pedantic, so I think "Version overviews" is more accurate. ‑‑MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 11:36, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
I think the name 'Version overviews' would be better than 'Update overviews', as @MinecraftBedrockPlayer7 said. This proposal is almost two years old and most people support it. So now we can move the guide pages to 'Version overviews' pages. -- 👁 Image

To be honest, I think there should be education edition guides Thecoolmantv2 (talk) 10:35, 23 November 2025 (UTC)

Delete subpages

Latest comment: 25 May1 comment1 person in discussion

Should these subpages Guides/Village & Pillage, Guides/Nether Update, Guides/Buzzy Bees, and Guides/Update Aquatic be deleted? These pages are essentially useless; No one searches in this way and merely serve as index pages containing just two links each. If these pages are useful in any way, we should create similar pages for all updates and drops such as Guides/Chaos Cubed and Guides/Tiny Takeover. -- 👁 Image
