Create History Section

[edit source]
Latest comment: 30 November 20192 comments2 people in discussion

Currently, the history section for this page, along with other armor piece share the same history as armor. History section should cover about helmet only, not other armor. ImakerB (talk) 20:51, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

@ImakerB: I agree. I see other similarities between articles about different pieces of armor, which makes me think that these were once all in one article that got split later, resulting in many copies of the same material in different articles.
If you want to trim down the history for each piece of armor, I have no objection. ~ Amatulic (talk) 01:07, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

Turtle helmet

[edit source]
Latest comment: 4 September 20242 comments2 people in discussion

Does anybody mind if this page also includes turtle shell? I had added entries for it in the infobox, and the crafting, combining, and unit repair sections alongside all the other helmets. This change was reverted because turtle shell has its own page, according to the edit summary. However, all helmets have their own pages now, so I don't think that's very strong reasoning. I suppose we could say that this page is only for helmets that are part of a full armor set, but that seems a little arbitrary. If we think that turtle shell is not a valid helmet, then somebody should probably also delete the info about its defense points and durability that were already on this page before my edits.  Support. As turtle shell can provide armor points, has durability and many other things in common with other armors. ๐Ÿ‘ Image

Smithing

I notice it does not show how to obtain netherite helmets through smithing. I would add this myself, but I don't know the template. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  14:00, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Do you mean {{Smithing}}? ๐Ÿ‘ Image

I guess so, but apart from not really knowing the template, I'm also honestly too lazy to do it myself. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  14:14, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
I added it. ๐Ÿ‘ Image

Thanks :D -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  14:19, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
I think it's not there because smithing doesn't represent helmets in general; it only represents netherite ones, so it doesn't belong here but rather on the individual page Netherite Helmet. Notice that Sword and Pickaxe also don't mention smithing, as they're also overview pages (as shown in the instructions in the DIG project. I'll revert that edit because of this. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 12:29, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
These overview pages are useless if they don't even include how to obtain these items. The netherite recipe should be included here, as well as in other tool overview pages.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 13:09, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
No, it's pretty clear that the main articles are the individual pages and the links to those pages are right at the first section. Overview pages should only have information that represents all or the majority of helmets, such as crafting for obtaining. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 13:18, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
I think it should be there. There's crafting recipes for others but not told how to obtain netherite helmet. ๐Ÿ‘ Image

Having obtaining information only for 6 out of 7 helmets is only going to confuse readers.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 13:25, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
I'm not sure, but the overview pages section of MCW:P/DIG says "The overview page also serves as a place for information that applies to all children pages." --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 08:14, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

These ideas are not set in stone, and in all cases doing what is best for readers takes priority.

Also look these: Ore#Smelting_ingredient (raw gold/iron/copper smelting) and Smithing_Template#Mob_loot (elder guardian drops) ๐Ÿ‘ Image

All ores are smelting ingredients. For example, if you use Silk Touch to get diamond ore, you can still smelt it into a diamond. Note that Ore is about coal ore, iron ore, copper ore, gold ore, diamond ore, etc., rather than raw iron, raw copper and raw gold. However, I do see your point on Smithing Template. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 23:34, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
I went ahead and (re-)added the netherite obtaining recipes to all tool pages that didn't have it. Smithing is not too dissimilar from crafting, and leaving out crafting information for 1 out of 6 variants is only going to confuse readers. The guidelines described in the DIG project page are just guidelines and not rules set in stone, and "doing what is best for readers takes priority."--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 12:13, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
All I know is that information is not too be removed from pages, even if said info is on other pages. All pages should have all applicable information. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  13:53, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Changing "Statistics" to "Protection"

[edit source]
Latest comment: 28 September 20258 comments4 people in discussion

The subsection "Statistics" in "Usage" is about the damage reduction helmets provide, not anything about the Statistics in Java Edition, so the title of it should be changed to "Protection". This problem also exists in other parts of armor (i.e. Chestplate, Leggings and Boots). Aed8814 (talk) 04:11, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

๐Ÿ‘ Image
Oppose because JE's statistics have nothing to do with armor. Protection is the name of an enchantment specifically for armor, which will 100% guarantee confusion if there is a section on the armor related pages with the same name ๐Ÿ‘ Image

So we should change "Statistics" to "Providing protection" so there won't be ambiguity. Aed8814 (talk) 04:17, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
The section is about the statistics of the armor, it has nothing to do with the Statistics page. Statistics is a normal word. Mudscape ๐Ÿ‘ Image

But the pages Wolf armor and Horse armor use "Protection" instead of "Statistics" as the titles of their sections. It is the same to normal armors. Aed8814 (talk) 04:31, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
Well, "Protection" is also a normal word as well as an enchantment, so you could argue both ways with that. --MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 05:00, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Enchantability list does not include Turtle Shell

--FeedbackBot 15:28, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
The enchantment list encompasses all helmets, not just the turtle shell. Furthermore, the enchantments compatible with the turtle shell are also mentioned on the respective page. BDJP (t|c) 15:37, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
