I think the table for Synced updates is to big and should be split up, as seen in this revision: Special:Diff/3129527. The table is quite large at the moment and it's difficult to make revisions for just one update in the source code when you have to scroll through everything else. -- Simanelix (T|C) 04:05, 29 August 2025 (UTC)

- Huh. It looks okay I guess. Though like, why have tables if the each one only has one row? You know what though, I just got an idea. But I don't think my idea will work. -- Simanelix (T|C) 23:30, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
I believe it would make sense to merge this page with Named update.
My logic:
- Under the new drop system, drops replace major updates. And I'm pretty there is no reason Tricky Trials could not have been a drop. And there is no reason a drop couldn't be as big as Tricky Trials. So, "major update" is just a named update released before Bats and Pots, or Tricky Trials specifically. And a game drop is a named update released after Trails and Trales, excluding Tricky Trials specifically.
- The updates listed on Major Update are simply all named updates that are not game drops. This is a completely nonsensical definition, and does not match what the head supposedly states. For example, the Horse Update, Bountiful Update, and World of Color Update could all be argued to be smaller than The Copper Age. And the Frostburn Update and Buzzy Bees are clearly minor updates, due to their lack of significant content.
- Generally speaking, major updates didn't really become large until the Aquatic Update was released.
Also, it is really dumb that Tricky Trials is the one exception to the rule.
Also also, the new drop system is identical to the old major update system. The only change is we now get 4 updates per year instead of 1, and drops can be smaller and have more specific themes. The 2nd and 3rd point there are also not strictly true, since the old major update system also allowed for smaller updates, like Buzzy Bees. -- Simanelix (T|C) 05:11, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- I agree only insofar that the term major update isn't actually defined officially. So the page's existance and usefulness is moot anyway. Nixinova T ⁄ C 05:17, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- I think it's very reasonable to assume major update are the several big/themed updates before game drops were a thing. The wiki have been constantly referring them as a "major update" in the version lead intro since Java Edition 1.8, and some devs have called them a major update, release, or version.[1][2][3][4] Outrowed (talk) 14:18, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- Fair enough, if mojang devs use it in a way parallel to how the wiki uses it. Nixinova T ⁄ C 22:06, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- I have created a draft for the merge: User:Simanelix/Named update. -- Simanelix (T|C) 05:35, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
- This draft is really very good. -- 👁 Image

- I think it is a bit awkward, with the descriptions for major update and game drop being so short. But I think they make sense and match with the descriptions I wrote in Version types and Version types/Before 2026. Since game drops replaced major updates as the primary update format. -- Simanelix (T|C) 18:15, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

Oppose the current articles are fine. CrockCraftMC (talk) 13:46, 11 January 2026 (UTC)
- Another idea I've had is to treat Game drop like the current version and Major update like the old version, since that is effectively what the new drop system does. Also, I think version infoboxes should treat game drops like major updates... wait, they already do. More support for my idea then.
- .
- So yeah. Do you think I should just tweak the pages to describe game drops as current and major updates an non-current?
- .
- Also, the merged list of changes for all synced updates as seen in my draft might be useful on its own. This could be done by shortening Game drop and Major update, and then adding Synced update as its own page. This also makes sense since game drops are synced updates, so § Synced updates being a section of Major update (i.e. the current situation) doesn't quite make sense. -- Simanelix (T|C) 18:08, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

Agree paras 1&2. For para 3, I think putting major update in past tense and keeping game drop as kind of it's spiritual successor is the way to go for this. Nixinova T ⁄ C 22:08, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

Support point 1 and 2. I support the idea of p.3, but I think "Synced update" could use a better name, since now Minecraft uses a different versioning format that closely resembles the game drop seasonal update. Otherwise I support either way. Outrowed (talk) 06:40, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- Maybe since it's more like a list page, I'd suggest "List of named updates", and call it a
{{Set index}} page. This is actually the way Wikipedia does set index pages (as different to our set index pages, making them too similar to disambiguation). Outrowed (talk) 06:45, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
- It seems we have agreed that a merge is not necessary. -- Simanelix (T|C) 17:44, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
