The chart says that a wood and stone sword do the same damage (2 hearts). This is incorrect as a stone sword will kill a pig or cow in two hits, whereas a wood sword takes three. -- KarlF12 02:40, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm adding a row to account for the approximate number of mobs you can kill with the weapon (based on the durability divided by the hits per kill). I'm doing this to show that the amount of use you get out of each sword type increases exponentially as you move to better materials.
Is has a good amount of content. Why is it a stub? MrWii 23:48, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Does anyone know how this works, exactly? (Does a higher fall increase the damage? How high is this bonus?) Streak 02:17, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
Cam anyone give a list of all the speeds for destroying special sword blocks like the lists on the other tools pages? Thanks. -- Assisstion 17:00, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Do swords mine all non-stone blocks faster than by hand? Efficiency enchantments hacked onto swords affect every non-stone block I've tried (efficiency only speeds up stone for picks, wood for axes, etc.). FatherToast 18:15, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Looking trought source code for 1.0.0 i found two things: 1. code for critical damage boost:
i += rand.nextInt(i / 2 + 2);
so actual critical damage can range from non-critical damage to currently listed critical damage.
2. potion effects applied before critical modificator and changes said "i". So potion of Strenght will increase possible critical modificator by 1 (with wooden or iron swords) or 2 (with stone or diamond). Potion of Strenght II wil increase it by 3. So diamond sword with PoS II can deal from π β€οΈ

I think that Notch should make a new item for Minecraft. That item: the shield! You see, the shield would do little damage, but would have a high defense level. So, Instead of blocking with just the weapon, you could block with the shield, which could also be crafted with the same materials as the normal tools: there would be a Wood shield, Stone shield, Iron shield, Gold shield, and Diamond shield! Plus, when made, you can use both the tools you have (including swords) and a shield at once! When confronting a Zombie, you can attack and block when needed! Can someone tell Notch about my idea?

Would it be worth it to note that a silk touch sword can collect spider webs, instead of producing string when you destroy it? Since you can only obtain one in in creative or with commands it has little point, but it might be useful for some map makers. KnightMiner (talk) 03:28, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

The hovers over the items in the infobox doesn't match the data in the Damage section

I have an idea. Right now all the swords are in one wiki page, but netherite sword is so different form others, so wouldn't it ne smarter to give it its own page? --Jdfrg (talk) 08:34, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
This article by Duncan Geere (and others of his) contains inaccuracies. It is currently quoted at the top of the Sword page's History section, and it claims that the Sword was added in January 2010. That is not correct. The Sword was actually first added in the 31 December 2009 Indev release, which Notch announced on his blog. This Sword page should be updated in some way to no longer suggest that the Sword was first added in January 2010 (specifically in the quote at the top of the page's History section). Vistabuntu (talk) 21:30, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
I noticed that, when compared to the breaking times of each of the blocks in the articles about those blocks themselves, some of the breaking times are inaccurate. However, I don't know how to change these myself, as the table seems to be pulling these values automatically from somewhere else.
As a side note, some of the preferred (most optimal) tools to break certain blocks also need to be updated on this page, as hoes have become that tool for some blocks, such as hay bales. Milo359 (talk) 18:55, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
I know this is weird, but i just want to know when you spam click a sword dose it do damage or not
and how many hearts dose it take when used on a mob.
The table of damage says that a netherite sword does eight damage (vs. a diamond that does seven). However, I'm looking at one I just upgraded to netherite, and it says eleven damage in the tooltip.
Which is correct?
In the history section, it says that blocking immediately after attacking no longer continues the attacking animation starting from 14w30a. However, this is not true after testing. I tested in the snapshot prior to that one, 14w29b, and the animation still doesn't continue. MinecraftExp123 (talk) 09:30, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
In the recipes of the reparing section, please just put "Any Matching Damaged Sword" instead of listing them each per material. Current state takes up 70% of a mobile screen which doesn't look good. The links for those individual sword types in that section doesn't matter much because there are links for those in the anvil section
there is no png of copper sword. Diegofigue 770 (talk) 11:12, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
It also doesn't show up for shovels (zombies) and axes (vindicators) and probably some others I didn't check Shipoopro (talk) 08:00, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
I'd argue that the sweep damage and perhaps enchantibility sections of the infobox are pretty unnesessary and can be removed. Infoboxes in general should be truncated! --Feedback by UNerdyguy2000NG2K
