A wither skull, also known as wither skeleton skull, is a key plot item in The Order of the Stone. It plays a central role in summoning the wither storm and triggering the major events of the first four episodes. Petra gets a wither skull after she goes to the Nether, but it is later used by Ivor to construct the wither storm.
The wither skull was acquired by Petra during a trip to the Nether, although this event occurs off-screen. Petra intended to trade the skull with Ivor, but was tricked when Ivor gave her lapis lazuli instead of a diamond. Jesse and Petra then chased him and recruited Axel, Olivia, and Lukas along the way.
After arriving to a basement, they found the skull together with two more skulls, soul sand, and a mysterious block. Later, Ivor used the skulls to the summon a wither that he can control. The skulls were used as the heads of the wither.
The wither skull is used in summoning a wither. When placed along with two others, on the prepared soul sand shape, it activates the process and is consumed. It has no other known uses or interactions.
Why'd I risk my neck for that skull if he's got two of them already?
