How to change a percent to a whole number?

Last Updated : 23 Jul, 2025

To change a percentage to a whole number, you can simply remove the percentage sign (%) and divide the number by 100. This effectively converts the percentage to a decimal, which can then be represented as a whole number.

Whole numbers are a set of numbers that include all the natural numbers (counting numbers) along with zero. They do not include any fractions or decimals. We can also say that whole numbers are a set of all positive integers including 0. They are represented by the symbol W.

How do you change Percent to Whole Number?

First, we will discuss about percent,

What is Percentage?

Percent or Percentage is a number that represents the hundredth part of any amount and is denoted by the percent sign %. A percent is also known as a ratio or fraction whose denominator is 100.

Percentage simply means one out of a hundred. The word "percent" comes from the Latin phrase "per centum," which means "by a hundred".

For example, the fraction 18/100 can be written as 18%.

Steps to Convert Percentage into Whole Number

To convert the percentage to whole number follow the below given steps:

  • Step 1: Remove the percent sign
  • Step 2: Divide the numerator with 100

Let us take an example to understand it better:

Example 1: Convert 200% into whole number.

Solution:

200% we can be written as 200/100

This can be simplified as 2, which is a whole number

Example 2: Convert 10% into whole number.

Solution:

10% we can be written as 10/100

This can be simplified as 0.1, which is not a whole number

it doesn't need to

So it is clear that we can convert percent to whole number by dividing it by 100 but it doesn't need to always give result in whole number.

Sample Questions on Percent Conversion

Question 1: What will be the result when converting 3.3% to whole number?

Solution:

Here given: 3.3%

First we will remove the percent symbol and then divide it by 100.

Therefore, 3.3% = 33/100

= 0.33

Hence, it is not a whole number.

Question 2: Find the 30% of the whole number 225?

Solution:

Here 30% we can write as 30/100

Now 30% of 225

And multiply the whole number 225 by 30/100

= (30/100) × 225

By simplifying

= 67.5

Therefore the 30% of 225 is 67.5

Question 3: Convert 300% into a whole number?

Solution:

Given: 300%

To convert it into whole number

First remove the percent sign and divide it by 100

Therefore we can write 300% as 300/100

= 300/100

= 3

Hence 3 is a whole number.

Question 4: At the shop, there is 35% off on purchases worth Rs 4000. Find the percentage in value?

Solution:

Here the off is 35%

cost of product = 4000

Now to find 35% of 4000

We can write as 35% = 35/100

Now multiply the whole 4000 by 35/100

= 4000 × 35/100

By simplifying

=  40 × 35

= 1400

So there will be Rs 1400 off on purchase of worth Rs 4000

Therefore the percentage of 35% in value is Rs 1400 .

Question 5:  Find 45 % of 600?

Solution:

Here 45 % we can write as 45/100

Now 45% of 600

Multiply the number 600 by 45/100

= (45/100) × 600

By simplifying

= 45 × 6

Therefore the 45 % of 600 is 270

Question 6:  Find the 50% of the whole number 325?

Solution:

Here 50% we can write as 50/100

Now 50% of 325

And multiply the whole number 325 by 50/100

= (50/100) × 325

By simplifying

= 16250/100

Therefore the 50% of 325 is 162.5
