The ore mineralization at El Dragόn, Province of Antonio Quijarro, in the Andes of Bolivia, is the most spectacular occurrence of Se-bearing minerals on Earth known today. Although volumetrically very minor, a total of 35 selenides and selenium oxysalts have been detected to date.

It is the type locality of 12 new selenium mineral species.

Small hydrothermal veins (to 4 cm thick) cutting Paleozoic sedimentary rocks. The origin of the Se-veins was accomplished by multiple injections of highly oxidized, metal-rich fluids into faults at the interface between black shale and siltstone. Selenides dominate over sulphides. The total production of ore was only a few hundred kilograms.

Description: New analysis done in 2021 (SEM, EDAX) by Joy Desor from a specimen in the collection of Elmar Lackner. Analytical data shows a Co:Ni ratio of approx 3:1 confirming Cobaltomenite. Notice the old entry because the similarity to Ahlfieldite: Much of the material called "cobaltomenite" from El Dragon was identified only by XRD and is really pink cobalt-bearing ahlfeldite. Color is a very unreliable guide, as it takes only a minor amount of Co to change the color from green to pink or purple.

The Mineralogical Record, 21 (2) 133-146). Some molybdomenite from El Dragon was found to be paramolybdomenite (Pekov et al., 2025). Paramolybdomenite from El Dragon is described as "thin-bladed crystals. Associated minerals are Co-bearing krut’aite–penroseite, chalcomenite, and dolomite. Molybdomenite- P21/c is pale yellow in transmitted light and has a greasy luster. It is brittle and has a Mohs hardness of 3. " (P21/c polytype is now known as paramolybdemenite); in Zhang, Jingnan; Yang, Hexiong; Gibbs, Ronald B.
