This day has become a day of memory that carries an obligation - Poroshenko on invasion anniversary

People's Deputy of Ukraine and leader of the European Solidarity party Petro Poroshenko, on the fourth anniversary of the full-scale invasion by Russia into Ukraine, notes that for the continued resilience of the state, systemic work, a competent government, and zero tolerance for corruption are required.

"There is a fact that Russia did not calculate: Ukrainians will not agree to disappear, surrender, or assimilate. In the first days, we were held together not by a reliable system, but by character, mutual trust, and the ability to self-organize. And the endless heroism of the army that stood its ground. We paid a terrible price for this. Therefore, we now have no right to live while ignoring reality," Poroshenko wrote on Tuesday morning on Facebook.

He emphasized that "the stage of fighting 'on character' has passed" and "without the systemic work of the state, it is now impossible to survive." "We need weapons and ammunition, protection and training for the military, fortifications, technological weapons, reforms in the army, domestic production, and order in the state. We need to stabilize the economy and restore good relations with allies. We need a competent government with zero tolerance for corruption, and correct unpopular decisions instead of beautiful presentations," the politician wrote.

Poroshenko remarked that the authorities had insufficiently prepared for the full-scale invasion. "It is more logical to prepare and thereby discourage Russia from attacking than to cover one's ears and eyes, ignoring warnings from everywhere… But we must speak honestly and directly: despite all our efforts, the state met the full-scale invasion unprepared. Not at the level of the peopleβ€”the people did the impossible, and thanks to that we survived. It was the authorities who proved unprepared," he noted.

"This day has become a day of memory that carries an obligation. For those we will never bring back. For those who are currently holding the line. Four years is a long time. But not enough to get used to it. We will not get used to it. But we will endure," Poroshenko concluded.
