The State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection maintained a stable epizootic situation in 2025 and prevented the spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Bluetongue into the territory of Ukraine, the agency's head Serhiy Tkachuk said during a public report.

"Unfortunately, while the situation is improving for some diseases, we have not significantly overcome them. We managed to keep the situation under control and prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, bluetongue, and other diseases that came quite close to our borders. This is the result of tremendous work by our veterinarians. We constantly carried out disinfection of vehicles at checkpoints on the border with the European Union," he said.

Tkachuk also said that agency specialists conducted numerous studies on Bovine Leukosis and recorded a significant spread of the disease among animals kept in household farms in Khmelnytsky region.

According to data presented by the agency's head, as part of disease monitoring in 2025 specialists conducted 1.28 million serological tests for bovine leukosis in cattle, 125,100 tests for Avian Influenza, and 27,200 tests for African Swine Fever (ASF). Preventive rabies vaccinations in animals in 2025 totaled 4.38 million procedures.

Statistics on detected disease cases in 2025 recorded 1,089 cases of rabies, compared with 1,214 cases in 2024. The number of identified outbreaks of bovine leukosis totaled 208 cases, compared with 22 in 2024 and 37 in 2023. The incidence of ASF in 2025 stood at 52 cases, compared with 85 a year earlier, while five cases of avian influenza were recorded versus 18 in 2024.
