So what I am thinking is the minecraft logo on the main page has a 0.001% chance of saying "Minceraft" like that old Minecraft eater egg.

- I had this idea before too, and while it would be very cool, there'd be technical difficulties with it since there's no way to implement a randomness factor like that, or so I've been told. - Harristic / Talk π Image

- Random selection is certainly possible in many ways; we can use a Lua module with a
math.random call or some JavaScript code, but those have their downsides. We also appear to have Extension:RandomSelection installed, which offers an option tag that allows setting weights to different choices (those canβt be fractional, but giving a weight of 9999 to the regular logo variant should be possible). β BabylonAS 11:28, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Just so you know a Lua module and the extension are both probably not going to work, it has to be implemented with JavaScript. --GIM Dianliang233 T C 13:33, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- What are the exact issues? β BabylonAS 20:11, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- The logo is a hard setting in LocalSettings.php and is not like a page. GIM Dianliang233 T C 05:22, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- The topic starter spoke about logo on the main page specifically. That is not hard-coded on the server side. β BabylonAS 19:27, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't notice that it says the logo on the main page. If that's the case I believe we still can't do things server-side because of cache. GIM Dianliang233 T C 23:45, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Math.random does work in javascript; I added it in my custom JS a while ago. - π Image

Support - It would be cool, but I don't know how it would be implemented. If we knew how to do it, I'd be for it. -- ThatOneWolf Time for a chat?See my edits? 15:35, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know. Anything that involves JavaScript being applied to such an important part of the webpage seems like it would be a confusion to the developers who run this website. I don't think this kind of thing is likely to happen, but it's not impossible. --Simanelix (talk) 04:40, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- We could make it a gadget instead and enable it by defualt. That would also allow someone to disable it. - π Image

- After some consideration, I think this easter egg would also incentivize making the wiki's main page more like Minecraft's main page. This would mean adding random splash text to the wiki logo. I think making the wiki's main page more like the game's would be really cool, but that's obviously a pretty big project. So, if we are going to add in this easter egg, we should make it a larger project, rather than going out of our way to add one tiny little thing to the wiki. I think making the wiki look more like Minecraft itself would actually help a lot with making readers more comfortable, since most readers should be actual Minecraft players.
- Conclusion:
- The main page of this wiki could be overhauled complete.
- π Image
+ Redesigning the page to resemble Minecraft's main menu is more inviting to players.

- The web design work required would be immense, and would require the support of multiple moderators and programmers.

- As an unofficial wiki, we may not use actual Minecraft assets on the main page. I wouldnΚΌt risk copying layout of the gameΚΌs menu either. β BabylonAS 06:01, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- I really like our current main page, and I don't think we should be more like Minecraft's main page just for the sake of it. They're completely different things.
- However, I would like implement a splash feature. The Spanish MCW does this and I really like it, it adds a lot of charm and personality since we get to add our own little messages. I just wonder how it could be neatly added to the currently main page without having to move around that top section a lot. - Harristic / Talk π Image

- I agree with you, Harristic. I think the wiki should have its own look. Also, you can see that [Spanish Wiki] has a very unique main page. In my opinion, its much better than the current main page on the English wiki. We should see if we can change our main page to look like theirs. --Simanelix (talk) 16:14, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- The Spanish ES wiki has a much more visually appealing main page layout for readers. The EN wiki's main page makes use of a solid white #FFFFFF background, which puts too much contrast and is quite "hard" on viewers. ES wiki's main page has no use of the #FFFFFF color. Implementing the spanish wiki's main page style onto the EN wiki would make the main page more attractive for readers, and it would be a more significant overhaul compared to the fandom wiki. EN wiki's main page is still quite identical with the old fandom wiki, which also used the #FFFFFF color on its main page. Delvin4519 (talk) 16:21, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- Personally I think the EN main page is great and is clearly distinct from the Fandom wiki's main page, which is just an abundance of text compared to ours. I'm open to using ideas from ES' design, but you've not given much reasons for using their design other than them not using a pure white background and being more distinct. We can change the shade of white on our main page without changing other things. - Harristic / Talk π Image
16:33, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- The shade of white used on the main page will have to be changed in order to add a splash text feature to the main page. The current #FFFFFF color on EN english wiki has essentially no contrast to the splash text, which uses a #FFFF00 color. Spanish ES wiki using a less contrast color on the main page makes the splash text easier to stand out. Adding a splash text on the current EN wiki main page will make the splash text essentially impossible to see due to the solid #FFFFFF white background color. Delvin4519 (talk) 16:48, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- I think the current EN main page is pretty good (I prefer it to ES) and already different enough than the mp on fandom. I oppose changing the main page just for the sake of an easter egg or unnecessary features like splash texts.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 17:09, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- We now have a gadget to change all instances of "Minecraft" to "Minceraft", including the logo (preview) with a change of 0.01%. Currently this gadget is not enabled by default, meaning logged-out users will never see it. I would like to hear your thoughts on enabling the gadget by default. π Image

Soft support - only soft support since the minceraft logo overwrites winter, nether, and halloween theme wiki logos, which kinda defeats the point of "hidden in plain sight" that the normal minceraft logo is supposed to be. Delvin4519 (talk) 16:40, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- Those themes are only available for logged-in users, who can also decide if they want the random Minceraft gadget themselves. For logged-out users it would always be "hidden in plain sight". -- π Image

- @MarkusRost: How do I enable a gadget? Is it in my preferences? MinecraftExp123 (talk) 04:05, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I know I'm not exactly who you were asking, but yes, gadgets are enabled in the "Gadgets" tab of your preferences. π Image

- Thank you, I've found it! Sorry, I was trying to find someone that will reply, so I just used the reply template and asked the person who originally sent the message of having this gadget.β Unsigned comment added by MinecraftExp123 (talk β’ contribs) at 04:10, 19 February 2024 (UTC).
