Refactoring translation projects

[edit source]
Latest comment: 24 January 20212 comments2 people in discussion

The translation projects for this wiki are fundamentally different from the other projects from this wiki so I propose that part of the Projects page be split into MCW:Translations. I also propose renaming the first level subpage names of the translation project pages to the ISO 639 code (e.g. MCW:Projects/Tagalog translation would be moved to MCW:Translations/tl). Categories and templates would be accounted for by creating them in the form of Template/Category:code/foreign name instead of creating them as subpages of the main project page. Official Marketplace items made by "Minecraft"(as in the publisher not mojang but the publisher's account is run by mojang)

Someone should add a project to have a subwiki for everything on the marketplace officially made by "Minecraft"(the publisher not mojang) Mugman2000 (talk) 03:04, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

πŸ‘ Image
Strong Oppose that is outside of scope of this wiki. This will fall under community things, but this wiki does not exist --TreeIsLife (talk) 06:57, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
The "Minecraft" publisher is Mojang's own team though, it's not a community team like AriaCreations. Dhranios (talk) (Join the wiki videos project!) 07:27, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

(Weak) Support, only if all the content is properly separated from the "main game" wiki content. Dhranios (talk) (Join the wiki videos project!) 07:27, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Why would we want to have wiki filled with market place items? We are here to document game, not marketplace. --TreeIsLife (talk) 07:34, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
Not just any marketplace content, only the content made by Mojang's team. There's a big difference. They're still the depelopers of the game. If this is not documented in the slightest form possible then neither should MinecraftEdu, the ancient java mod Mojang made.  Dhranios I'm proposing a subwiki, so they would be separated. Mugman2000 (talk) 23:04, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Wait, MinecraftEdu was a mod? I thought it was its own game... Mugman2000 (talk) 23:07, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
Even if this was within the scope of the wiki, the project would likely be short-lived. Simply creating a new page with {{WIP}} and starting discussions of the new page's talk page is probably enough. Fadyblok240 (talk) 20:48, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

How to delete translation article?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 11 February 20212 comments2 people in discussion

I messed up when attempting to create Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Catalan translation/Minecraft Wiki/style and created Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Catalan translation/style.

How can I delete this page or who should I contact with? -- Jibun86 (talk) 14:24, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Just use the {{delete}} template. You need to use it as {{delete}}. That will tag the page for deletion. You should also add a reason, like this as an example: {{delete|Error when attemptng to create the article}}. Supeika (talk) 14:51, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Translation article links inside template parameters

[edit source]
Latest comment: 15 February 20213 comments2 people in discussion

How can I set a link to a translated article inside a template parameter?

For instance, in {{/platform|java|image=Computer.svg|link=Java Edition|title=Computer|store-url=https://minecraft.net/store/minecraft}} I want to replace link=Java Edition by the translation project version EdiciΓ³ Java, but I do not think link=Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Catalan translation/EdiciΓ³ Java would be correct since that would have to be replaced manually when the language domain is created. --Jibun86 (talk) 12:30, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Typically, the solution is creating a translated version of the template, which you'd want to do eventually anyways to get the title and infobox rows translated. You could in the template use {{ll}} or always prefix links with the project. KnightMiner (t/c) 16:01, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Inside the template code [[File:{{{image}}}|{{{size|x50}}}px|link={{{link}}}|{{{title}}}]] I have the same problem using {{ll}}. It does not seem to work well having a template generating a link inside another link all mixed up with template parameters notation, so I guess I will have to set link=Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Catalan translation/{{{link}}} by hand in the template and have it changed once the specific language domain is created. --Jibun86 (talk) 17:09, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Method of template translation

[edit source]
Latest comment: 20 February 20213 comments2 people in discussion

I need to start translating templates, and I'm stuck on how to deal with it.

In section Β§ Template translation? back in 2013 someone suggested translating templates with the format [[Template:BlocksLANGUAGE]], however this will make language translated templates not to be part of the Minecraft_Wiki:Projects/Catalan_translation subpath, moreover it will mean not translating templates names and having to change them all once the language domain is granted both in the template page and in all references.

What was the method used for finished language translation projects? Those active right now do not seem to have any template translated.

Is there a way to translate templates, keep them in the language translation project subpath and be able to translate their names, or do you think the method mentioned above is the way to go? --Jibun86 (talk) 18:15, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

As an alternative solution to both this problem and the one mentioned in the section above, I have suggested this approach: Template talk:Language link Β§ Language path. Do you think is feasible? --Jibun86 (talk) 14:34, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
Also consider my approach to this problem at #Refactoring translation projects. A lot of pages would have to be moved, but translated templates would end up in the Template namespace instead of the MCW namespace, so the wikitext for transcluding them would be shorter. They would end up a different subpath, but that doesn't matter that much. Fadyblok240 (talk) 01:57, 20 February 2021 (UTC), edited 02:00, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Why?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 5 May 20215 comments2 people in discussion

Hi, just a simple question? Why is the project marked as inactive while there are still 666 (nice number) files marked as needing and update? Should not this be changed to active? --Goro488 (talk) 14:19, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

It means the project is existing, but nobody is doing it. --TreeIsLife (talk) 14:56, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Not true, I know about 3-4 people currently working on it. Marking the photos with categories or reuploading the images. --Goro488 (talk) 17:17, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Some of this is done in project called Cleanup open tags or Screenshot Minecraft Versions, not this one. --TreeIsLife (talk) 17:23, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Some of the latest changes are done at the end of April, thatΒ΄s not distant past. --Goro488 (talk) 18:20, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Wiki namespace?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 26 October 20232 comments2 people in discussion

Just one Question. Does anyone have a link to the wiki namespace to start a project?

--Aelliott906 (talk) 19:49, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

All you have to do is make a page with "Minecraft Wiki:Projects/Your Project" (replace "Your Project" with what you want the title of your project to be.) ThatOneWolf (talk|contribs) 20:28, 26 October 2023 (UTC)

Proposal: Project for documenting files in .minecraft and com.mojang

[edit source]
Latest comment: 7 November 20231 comment1 person in discussion

I propose a new project for documenting the purpose and format of each file and directory in the .minecraft (JE) and com.mojang (BE) directories. Currently, the documentation for many of these files is lacking or nonexistent. (edit: see here) Meeples10 (talk) 03:31, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Renderings

[edit source]
Latest comment: 19 April 20241 comment1 person in discussion

I don't have an account on here (I'm AAEexecutive on Wikipedia), so I can't start a WikiProject, but I would just love it if there were a complete set of renderings for all the /structure pages. Most/all of the renderings are missing from the pages on:

-Abandoned Mineshafts

-Nether Fortresses

-Ocean Monuments

-Trial Chambers

If somebody (or several somebodies) would add them, I would be eternally grateful!

Im planning on starting a project page (for the irl books, in case youre wondering) and Im not really sure where to put it in the table. Does it go on the bottom or the top? Or a secret third option? Thanks in advance!

Pretty sure top. No one changed it when I put the Legends project there, so I guess so. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  03:43, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Doesn't have a namespace yet but that's for a seperate reason that doesn't, in my opinion, justify not creating a project for it. Not sure what the problem is. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  15:04, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

Want to revive Rewrite for Style

[edit source]
Latest comment: 13 March5 comments4 people in discussion

There will definitely be new pages coming their way, although there is a chance they won't fit the style guide. Rewrite for Style came in and fixed the pages not matching the style guide, but they closed down. I have two options here:

  • Reopen the existing project
  • Create a "Rewrite for Sytle II" project

What pages do you think they do not comply with the current style guide? β€” BabylonAS 05:58, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
Everything in Category:Cleanup

N3verDigStraightUp (talk) 19:23, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
Most of the 170 pages that need cleanup are tutorial pages, so you would need to either join the Standardize and rewrite tutorials project, or create a sequel project. For the rest of the pages, another Rewrite for Style project is not needed because it's still a small chunk and we already enforce the style guide stricly on new articles. –RedX (talk) 19:31, 8 March 2026 (UTC)
You could help us too in cleaning up Dungeons pages by making them comply with MCW:DUNGEONS as part of the general Dungeons project. πŸ‘ Image

Should I rename NavSpread?

[edit source]
Latest comment: 25 March1 comment1 person in discussion

I want to rename project NavSpread to TemplateSpread because the project spreads templates in general and not just navbox templates, but I feel like keeping it for nostalgic reasons and all the effort it takes to move all the NavSpread pages to the new name. Should I rename the project? πŸ‘ Image
