All articles in Minecraft Dungeons should follow the following layout.

Introduction

[edit source]

The introduction section of an article is the section before the first heading. It should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, briefly describing its most important points. The article's subject should be mentioned at the earliest natural point in the prose within the first sentence, and should appear in boldface. Only the first instance should be in boldface. For example:

A pickaxe is one of the most commonly used tools in the game, being required to mine all ores and many other types of blocks.

Appearance and description

[edit source]

This section applies to missions, sub dungeons, sub-missions, and secret missions. This section describes the geography of the location (see Creeper Woods § Appearance and description for an example). This section also contains a quotation about the mission from the official guidebook.

Purchase description

[edit source]

This section contains the in-game pre-purchase description of downloadable content, quoted directly.

Additions

[edit source]

This section lists the features added by the DLC. For bundled DLCs, content should be organized by using subsections. Enemies and weapons should not be listed in bundles or passes. This section should only list new additions and should exclude features already existing outside the DLC.

This is an optional section to describe any canonical in-universe facts that provide the player with background information that enhances the game playing experience. Lore should be verifiable from official sources. Information in the lore section may include, but is not limited to:

  • A relevant quotation from an official source using the format {{Quote|quotation text|quotation author}}.
  • Distinctive appearance attributes that are not immediately obvious.
  • Backstory information about the article subject, cited to official sources.

Official sources include YouTube videos from the Minecraft channel, official novels, and official videogames.

Comments on X/Twitter, Discord, and forum discussions should generally not be considered sources of lore. If the comment is from a Mojang employee, it might be included in the trivia section. Such comments should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether to cite them. On the other hand, articles or videos dedicated to the subject on X/Twitter, Minecraft.net, or Nintendo Switch can be considered as sources of lore, but should also be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Do not include spoilers, tutorial advice, technical feature history, or any information that is verifiable only from fan communities or other unofficial sources. Also do not engage in editorializing, interpretations, or synthesizing conclusions that aren't stated in the official sources.

Biography

[edit source]

The biography section details the character's background and their involvement in the story. It should continue through their death if the character is permanently deceased.

If the character is deceased and has had a significant impact on the story or other characters, a subsection titled "Legacy" should be created.

Subsections for each form of media could be created.

Spawning

[edit source]

This section lists the various ways or locations in which the mob spawns.

This section contains a table of items a mob drops upon death.

Example

Locations

[edit source]

  • For items, include subsections for missions, merchants, and ancients.
  • For enchantments, include subsections for stacking and tiers.

Stacking

[edit source]

This subsection would state whether the enchantment is stackable, which indicates it can appear in more than one slot.

This subsection includes a table showing the costs of the enchantment tiers.

Example

Effect

[edit source]

This section describes how the status effect affects the player or mob, including any changes to attributes such as damage, speed, health, or other abilities.

Causes

[edit source]

This section lists the various ways the effect can be obtained. A table may be used here optionally to list multiple possible sources.

Unlocking

[edit source]

This section specifies in which mission and during which objective the scroll for the secret mission appears.

Example

Warped Forest, the mission where Crimson Forest's scroll is found, always spawns the scroll during the following objective: "Warped Forest: Find the Exit"

Behavior

[edit source]

For mobs, this section contains information on how they act toward the player and other mobs. It also contains information on how other mobs react toward this mob.

This section lists the runes the ancient mob offers when encountered in ancient hunts.

Enchantments

[edit source]

This section contains a list of enchantments that are applied to the ancient mob.

Minion enchantments

[edit source]

This section contains a list of enchantments that are applied to the minions of the ancient mob.

For enchantments, effects, and items, this section contains information on what can be done with them.

This section lists the entities to which the enchantment can be applied, or states if it is not applicable.

Properties

[edit source]

The properties of the item.

Example

Stacking

[edit source]

This section would state how an enchantment behaves when in more than one slot.

This section contains a table of the stats associated with the item. On mob pages, this subsection is presented as a main section.

Example

Hit number Base damage Attack duration Area Splash damage drop off Knockback Hitstun
Hit 1 50 0.4s 30° 50% 1 1
Hit 2 50 0.4s 30° 50% 1 1

Unintended skips

[edit source]

This section includes a video showing unintended ways a sub-dungeon can be skipped.

Related entity

[edit source]

This section describes a related entity, such as a projectile or an ancient boss variant, and the section's heading should be named after it. The section should have its own infobox and include information about the entity. If the related entity is a separate mob that behaves independently, it should instead be given its own page.

Minecraft Dungeons Arcade

[edit source]

This section covers the card counterpart of the subject as it appears in Minecraft Dungeons Arcade. Use {{Dungeons Arcade card information}} and {{ArcadeNumNavbar}}.

Example

Voiceovers

[edit source]

This section lists notable voice lines, along with their corresponding audio files. Each line is labeled with its context in the game, such as opening or ending narration.

There are unsettling rumblings in the mountains of the Overworld. Whispered rumors say the Illagers are building something dreadful far beneath these ancient mines - something of soot, metal, and flame. Only a hero such as yourself could brave the cavernous underground and uncover the truth.

— Opening voiceover

So the rumours were true! The Illagers are building a dreadful forge under the mountain.

— Ending voiceover

This section contains a table of the stats associated with the entity. On item pages, this section is presented as a subsection of usage.

Health

[edit source]

This subsection includes a table of health values and how they scale with power.

Example

Power Min health
1 9
4 15.3
10 24.3
16 36.9
22 49.5
27 66.6

39 115.2
45 147.6
51 189.9

Sounds

[edit source]

A table containing all sounds associated with this object. They should be organized using the {{SoundTable|type=dungeons}} template.

Data values

[edit source]

This section details the subject's internal data values. It should currently only include an ID subsection, to avoid using technical terms in ways that might confuse readers. Other data values subsections can be proposed on this guide's talk page, ideally including a suggested proper formatting for presenting the data.

This subsection shows how actors (entities, items, etc.), any objects, and levels are identified in Unreal Engine games. Use {{LevelActorTable}} and {{LevelActorLine}}.

Achievements

[edit source]

This section contains any achievements related to the article subject. Achievement sections should be transcluded using {{Load DungeonsAchievements}} (e.g. {{Load DungeonsAchievements|Iceologer's Revenge}}). Achievements should be entered manually (using {{DungeonsAchievements}}) only if {{Load DungeonsAchievements}} does not display the correct achievement(s).

History

[edit source]

History sections should use {{HistoryTable}} with {{HistoryLine|dungeons}}.

History sections should not contain non-notable bugs and bug fixes, as those belong on the tracker. Generally, a change that is reverted after a single version is subject to removal as a bug unless a source is provided that it is intended. An exception is if the bug has existed in at least one major release version and notably contradicts something on the article.

Issues

[edit source]

The Issues section should contain only {{Issue list}}. Nothing else goes in this section.

Quotes

[edit source]

All quotes should be in this section, quotes at the top of the article page could clutter search results. Use {{Q|quote|author or context}}.

When a large number of quotes are present, use {{scrollable container}} to prevent the section from becoming too lengthy and consuming excessive page space.

Trivia

[edit source]

Additions to trivia must meet the following guidelines:

  • Trivia should not be obvious to players and should be information that readers are not likely to know but would be interested in.
  • Trivia should contain only information about the feature that does not fit anywhere else in the article. If the trivia is relevant to another section, consider incorporating it into that section before considering it for removal.
    • Notably, history- and lore-related trivia should be merged into a History or Lore section if possible; e.g. "The original piston texture had an iron band running over the head. This was later removed, leaving only iron brackets around the corners and edges".
      • Exceptions to this include history not specifically related to the feature's development in Minecraft, such as Jeb's interest in a suggestion for Nether gold ore.
  • Trivia should consist of only verifiable facts, and contain no speculation, rumor, opinion, or personal commentary.
  • Trivia should state how a characteristic of a block, item, mob, or other game element is surprising or unique, but not essential to the feature's function.
  • Things that should not be in trivia include, but are not limited to:
    • listing other game elements that share a certain characteristic
    • listing items that do not share a certain characteristic
    • stating that a game element is the first to have a certain characteristic
  • Trivia related to the feature's in-game name when using translations is not allowed, as translations are not created by Mojang, making them unofficial.

If relevant, this section may have a subsection called Publicity containing information on the article topic in merchandise and other media.

This section lists the music used in the game, including both in-game sound files and their corresponding official soundtrack releases. Each subsection corresponds to a specific music category featured in the game and begins with a {{main}} template linking to the relevant main article. YouTube embeds of the tracks are placed below the corresponding sound tables.

Gallery

[edit source]

Any animation gifs should only be placed in the gallery. Putting them in the main body causes them to stack on the side and overflows into other sections in desktop view and increases vertical scroll length in mobile view. Images already used in the infobox should not be duplicated in the gallery. Use the gallery tag to add a gallery of images.

See also

[edit source]

The "See also" section should contain links to other articles that have not been mentioned anywhere else in the article and are of a relevant topic.

If any footnotes were added on the page, {{notelist}} should be placed in this section to have the footnotes appear here.

References

[edit source]

If any citations or references were added on the page, {{reflist}} should be placed in this section to have the references appear here.

External links

[edit source]

This section should contain relevant links to external sites, such as minecraft.net articles.

Navigation

[edit source]

Navbox templates such as {{Navbox Dungeons items}} should be placed under a separate "Navigation" heading. This allows them to consistently display under the same section heading instead of in whichever section otherwise ends up being the last, which differs from page to page. This is particularly helpful for allowing mobile readers to easily access navboxes, where sections are collapsed by default.
