The 0x8007007e (or 8007007e) error is a Windows Update related issue. The “0x” prefix simply indicates that the number is in hexadecimal format both codes refer to the same error.

This error typically occurs when:

  • A required system file is missing or corrupted
  • Windows Update services are not running
  • Device drivers are incompatible with the update
  • Third-party software interferes with system processes

Why do we face the 0x8007007e error

There can be several causes for this error and a few of them are mentioned below :

  • Software Conflicts: Third-party antivirus or security software may block Windows Update processes or modify system files, causing update failures.
  • Outdated or Incompatible Drivers: Drivers allow hardware to communicate with Windows. If they are outdated or incompatible with the latest update, installation may fail.

How to fix the 8007007e Error

Below, I've outlined several methods to resolve this error, each with a step-by-step guide. Please follow these methods sequentially to address the issue.

Method 1: Temporarily Disable Antivirus Software

Follow these steps to disable the Windows Defender:

  • Go to Windows security.

Method 2: Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

  • Go to settings.
