I wonder if it's already been discussed, but there are pages in Category:Outdated and Category:Removed_mobs (Rana, Isometric screenshot, etc.) that seem to me like they would go here.

{{main}} link to the article. As for grassless dirt, it never was removed, there was simply a texture change, and the addition of an in game name. –KnightMiner (t|c) 16:34, 3 November 2014 (UTC)Am I right to put the Quiver in the unused section of this page? Or should it go on Mentioned features as it still exists as a sprite (although I don't know where would make sense though) –Goandgoo ᐸ Talk

The quiver was originally planned to 1.9 but was removed again because "there are more natural" --200.127.21.210 19:20, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

In the "Obtainable until 1.7.2, there's that sugarcane. It's actually possible to obtain it in Creative (or at least in PE) –Preceding unsigned comment was added by RobustGlimt2907 (talk • contribs) at 1:25, 07 January 2016 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Actually, plate.png Was used in c0.30_01c, in Survival mode, but it was hardcoded to creative, as the (decompiled) code states: "
package com.mojang.minecraft.mob;
import alotofthings;
public class HumanoidMob extends Mob {
...
public void renderModel$f1c6c5a(...) {
...
if ((this.armor) || (this.helmet)) {
...
GL11.glBindTexture(3553, parama.a("/armor/plate.png"));
...
}
...
}
...
}"
This is where plate.png is used. And this is where the gamemode is hardcoded to Creative: "
package com.mojang.minecraft;
import alotofimports;
public final class l/*Minecraft*/ implements Runnable {
//Deobfuscated: public com.mojang.minecraft.gamemode.GameMode gamemode = new com.mojang.minecraft.gamemode.CreativeGameMode(this);
public com.mojang.minecraft.d.b a = new com.mojang.minecraft.d.a(this);
...
}"
If you want to see it with your eye, open the jar with a decompiler and take a look at com/mojang/minecraft/l.class and com/mojang/minecraft/mob/HumanoidMob.class .
+ you can go into survival mode by modifying "public com.mojang.minecraft.d.b a" in l.class to be "com.mojang.minecraft.d.c" with a bytecode editor.

tHERE IS ALREADY A GENERIC VILLAGER THAT WERE RE-ADDED IN 1.11. WHY ARE YOU FORBIDDING TO REMOVE THE SECTION?!?!?! –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.23.255.61 (talk) at 20:05, 17 November 2016 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Ok, that can be removed in 1.11.1, Right, Sealbudsman?--66.50.41.11 17:13, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
The text says "Notch <3 ez!" is still present in PE. I checked my Win10 Edition 1.0 splashes.json and it's gone, but I have no clue when it might have been removed if it was ever there (I don't remember ever seeing it displayed). Before I presumptively remove the statement, could someone check it for Android and iOS just to be sure? Auldrick (talk) 20:07, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
I dug into the files of beta 1.7.3 and discovered something unused. It was called "power.png" without the quotes. I checked to see if it was still there in 17w06a, but I couldn't find it where it was before. In fact, I couldn't find it anywhere. It had been removed. Anybody else know anything about this? Like maybe when the texture was added and when it was removed? I'll look for information, too. However, I can't promise I'll find much.--WarmWooly75 (talk) 05:03, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
In the last edit, dead coral was added to the removed features. Should we really include it though? It only appeared in just a few snapshots of 1.13, and there are no features that I see on this page only appreared in snapshots (I didn't look closely though). I personally think that this should be deleted, but I'm open for anything. It does seem like snapshots often test lots of things that are later removed, and I don't think Dead coral is really worth mentioning. Another reason for this is that dead coral is actually a coral variant and was just split up into several dead corals, meaning that dead coral was never really removed.--👁 Image

In 1.7, their translation key was changed to item.fish.cod.raw.name and item.fish.cooked.raw.name and apparently (https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/5gyjng/what_kind_of_fish_is_the_fish_item/daw8rao/?context=0) the in-game name was planned to be changed back then. Still, Mojang themselves asked the Java Edition translators to translate is as "cod" (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uqg6mPo6iIQOuqcUsAGXgN-glUEhM1bCKWzcGT6MDRA/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true).
The name in the en_us file was changed in 17w47a, along with the "flattening" and is unrelated to the actual fish mob and texture change. If we add things here because of a name change, we should also list hardened clay being replaced by terracotta in 1.12 and many other items as well. --Capopanzone (talk) 19:55, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
I don't know if any of the unused potions had effects or not. The content of the only revision of the Clear Potion page before it was deleted was:
Clear Potion gives you 3 minutes of speed and 3 minutes of haste. Curently can only be modded for.
This was created by a user with no other contributions, either before or after that one. Between the editor's lack of a trustworthy reputation, and the mention of mods, I don't think this edit can be used as evidence that the unused potions had effects. -- Orthotopetalk 19:17, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Dear fellow Wiki-users,
I have experimented with the old Indev versions containing MD3 mobs, and, based on what I have observed, I think that their drops might need to be corrected. You see:
Firstly, the male MD3 mobs can all drop 0-2 items. Secondly, every male MD3 mob has one specific item; Steve will always drop string, Black Steve will always drop gunpowder and Beast Boy will always drop feathers. Thirdly, none of the male MD3 mobs ever drop a flint and steel, as is not only evident when playing Indev 20100130, but also when looking at the game's source code.
As for my proof for this, as well as my observations regarding Rana's loot, kindly refer to my forum-post regarding the matter.

Piglins are being added soon, and Zombie Pigmen are being renamed to Zombified Piglins. It’s pretty obvious that Piglins are supposed to replace Pigmen judging by the Zombie Pigman name change, so would we still consider living Pigmen removed? 184.181.98.125 21:21, 28 September 2019 (UTC)
https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Java_Edition_removed_features#Obtainable_until_Java_Edition_1.9 that's all I can say.--32.213.179.11 21:51, 23 May 2020 (UTC)
I think there is a lot of replaced features that could use it's own place. We have the pigman, rose, grass-less dirt, classic wool colors, wool armor, etc. I think if the changes are large enough, we could put it in this category. Maybe the criteria could be a name and a texture change, but it has to be different enough. (e.g. clay being renamed to clay ball wouldn't qualify even though it technically had it's texture changed.) This could be a section inside the different separated pages of removed blocks, items, and entities; or given it's own page. — Yekulten (talk) 15:05, 26 June 2021 (UTC)
I cannot find any information on the internet about this feature. Bianche2006 (My Messages My Edits) 07:09, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
Hello, I have a proposal that items in “Java Edition removed features” page should be sorted alphabetically Jooraj (talk) 15:19, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
The way it is now it seems clunky, especially when they aren't in chronological order, and "prior to 1.7.2" links to the standard "Biome" page.

Java Edition removed features#Crafting recipes and Crafting#Removed recipes link to each other as the "main article". Neither contains a Java-only list of removed recipes. The equivalent for Bedrock is at Bedrock Edition removed recipes. Where should the main article be for Java Edition removed recipes? -¬kk 〈Tᴀʟᴋ🆕︎〉 05:39, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
There were those very unpopular piston sounds planned for 1.21 to make pistons quieter. Are those unused, or are those removed and therefore supposed to be here? Nerdyguy2000 (talk) 22:08, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
In snapshot 16w04a and TU69 the rain sounds were updated. They were made much more quiet. I would expect the old sounds to be listed on the page but they currently aren't. Could someone add them here please? BugsbugsbugsMinecraftWiki (talk) 19:34, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
Putting the Far Lands here implies it was an intended feature rather than a glitch.
Hi,
I was doing some research and found a bug report about the unused strings for a "/chunkinfo" command. One of Mojang's developers (Erik Broes) responded by saying that it was an "internal command": [1]https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC/issues/MC-106666
Based on what he said, it sounds like the unreleased "/chunkinfo" command was used for development. Mickey42302 (talk) 17:56, 5 August 2025 (UTC)
For example: 1. Something was done, but after then it was denied before the official release (Stronghold glass pillars, Spawning nether portals with F4, Time control with F6 and F7, Brick pyramid, Obsidian wall, calm4.ogg, Play Tutorial Level button); 2. Something was attempted, but they were never fully completed (Purple arrow); 3. Something were not added at all, only mention.
Removed features should the belong for things: 1. Added things, starting from 1.0.0 official release, after some time they were removed, but things don't count here, which added in snapshots and removed also very fast in next snapshots and not lives in next releases, they are also considered as Unimplemented/Mentioned.
What are your opinions? Khimarik Mayer (talk) 16:07, 5 January 2026 (UTC)
This page is absolutely huge and a lot of the things listed don't strike me as "removed features", but rather "features that were significantly changed". For example, the old walking animation barely counts as "removed" or a "feature" as I see it - it's an aspect of an existing feature (the player entity) that was substantially modified. Eating food to recover health no longer being the case due to the presence of hunger also is less of a "removed feature" and more of a fundamental change to how food works. The "high-distance anomalies" section contains no "features" at all, but rather notable fixed bugs. This entire page, as it currently stands, reeks of scope creep. User-12316399 (talk) 13:59, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
In pre-loaded items sub-section (in player features section), someone added yellow notice "This section needs cleanup to comply with the style guide." with text "some of the images used here seem anachronistic or even sourced from the completely wrong edition, or are of completely unexpected block states" which is non-sense and misunderstanding. Many blocks in older versions of Java Edition used different block lighting in inventory, had various blockstates and had textures that looked similar to Pocked Edition despite they had nothing common with MCPE. For example textures of Glass and Sponge from 0.0.19a or Filled End Portal Frame from Beta 1.9 pre-release 3 look to some people like if they were from MCPE despite they aren't. That yellow notice should be removed since pre-loaded items are documented correctly. Aleksandra0056 (talk) 10:13, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
