Gear

[edit source]
Latest comment: 30 January 20132 comments2 people in discussion

Where it says the texture appears to have a gear on it I personally think it looks more like a saw Megatron James 20:20, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

See this page: Gear. It is probably referring to the old texture. Pokechu22 02:22, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Usage

Latest comment: 1 February 20132 comments1 person in discussion

What is the point of this block does it make a seprate inventory for cobblestone?? Megatron James 20:21, 29 January 2013 (UTC) This just reduces the items in the crafting table so that the list was not so long. (Think of it this way: the pocket edition only has a few blocks right now, but if it were to have more, (and possibly mod blocks), then the list would be too long to be manageable.) Pokechu22 02:22, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Since the update came out now I realise that it's another crafting table bacicly :P Megatron James 23:29, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Likely be removed/ stay around

Latest comment: 11 February 20131 comment1 person in discussion

"It will be removed once the MATTIS system is discontinued, however it will stay for a while because of the speed MATTIS provides.[citation needed]" This uncited information, although it would be logical, is speculation. If there are no protests, I will remove it. --Droideka30 00:38, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Crafting

[edit source]
Latest comment: 11 February 20131 comment1 person in discussion

It says you need a crafting table to make the pickaxe, but hypothetically, you COULD use strategic creeper explosions. This is by no means practical, but it is possible. --Droideka30 00:33, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Added to Pi Edition

Someone edit this page please. The stone cutter was added to the Raspberry Pi Edtion. Same texture, I'll try and get more info about it later. Thank you! SnipahKitteh150.90.6.156 14:30, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Split the article

[edit source]
Latest comment: 14 July 20192 comments2 people in discussion

As the new and the old stonecutter hardly have anything in common beside the name, it only makes sense to split the article into two seperate articles about the different blocks. Delycache (talk) 23:30, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

I broke the formatting for the crafting section...

I was trying to get rid of a duplicate crafting recipe that was labeled "Bedrock edition", because the duplicate was exactly the same as the Java edition version, but now the recipe won't appear at all in the article! Help! Milo359 (talk) 17:19, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Cut Copper

[edit source]
Latest comment: 27 December 20212 comments2 people in discussion

Using the stonecutter on a copper block (and any oxidized variant) yields 4 cut copper blocks (and respective oxidized variant). This is documented on the page Block of Copper but not here. I can confirm it works, i just tested on 1.18.1 stable release. --109.190.23.1 12:50, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

Yes, it's already shown in the recipe table here. Amatulic (talk) 02:19, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Resolved

No information on block dimensions for stone cutter. Its 9 pixels (9/16 of a block height, shared with bed), 1 pixel taller than slab.

--FeedbackBot 15:38, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
That information is trivial at best, and would not be added anyway as it goes against MCW:TRIVIA due to it being visually comparative. BDJP (t|c) 16:56, 10 November 2025 (UTC)

Should we split the Cutting section to its own page?

I think it makes more sense split. 👁 Image

Oppose, I don't think this would improve the reader's experience in any way. Cutting mechanics are really simple (add input item -> pick output item) and don't need a dedicated page, unlike more complex mechanics like smelting or brewing. --Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 19:50, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Oppose for the same reason as Capopanzo. 👁 Image

Oppose per Capopanzo. Stonecutting is much more simple than crafting, smelting, or brewing. ‑‑MinecraftExp123(talk|contribs) 01:18, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

Oppose for multiple reasons. 1) Per Capopanzo, 2) the stonecutter is the only block that can be used to cut stone, it would be different if multiple blocks had the use, and 3) we don't need to split things just to split them 👁 Image

Bedrock Interface

[edit source]
Latest comment: 9 June2 comments2 people in discussion

It does not have the interface of stonecutter on Bedrock Edition. Fornote (talk) 12:15, 5 June 2026 (UTC)

I see you just added it, thank you! TheCaptainYaya (talk) 06:41, 9 June 2026 (UTC)
