Sky City is a floating settlement suspended high above the clouds in an alternate Overworld Jesse and the others traveled to in Order Up!. It served as the primary setting of the episode.
Sky City originally started as small cluster of islands with a tree, as according to Milo or Isa. The original tree and island are located behind Isa's palace, along with a crafting table, water body, and a cobblestone generator. The islands were always believed to be floating on an endless void. A city was later built using resources from an Eversource chicken, with, overseeing its development and maintaining strict regulations to preserve its stability.
During the events of Order Up!, the Blaze Rods, led by Aiden, arrived in Sky City. They approached the Founder and falsely warned her about Jesse and their companions, portraying them as a threat. Shortly afterward, Jesse, Petra, Lukas, and Ivor arrived on a floating island near the city. To reach the city, they constructed a bridge and entered the settlement, where they encountered a citizen who expressed fear that they had committed a crime by using resources.
While exploring, Jesse's group discovered that resources were highly valued in Sky City, with strict laws against wasting or misusing them. The group later met Milo, the leader of the Build Club, a secret organization that defied the city's laws by building freely. Through Milo, they learned that the Blaze Rods had already warned the Founder about their arrival.
The Founder soon addressed the entire city, asking Jesse to step forward in response to Aiden's accusations. In the ensuing confrontation, Ivor and Lukas volunteered to be arrested by the guards, while Petra chose to go with Milo. Jesse was left to decide who to follow.
Later, Jesse, Lukas, and Isa fell from the palace's basement and discovered the existence of a land below Sky City. Jesse and Isa worked together to return to the city, where they confronted Aiden and the Blaze Rods. However, during the chaos, monsters began to overwhelm the city, forcing its citizens to evacuate.
Uncertain of where to go, the citizens initially resisted Jesse's suggestion to escape via a waterfall leading to the land below. After encouragement from Milo and Isa, the citizens began to follow.
The city is made up of mainly gold, quartz, stone, cobblestone, and iron. There are walls bordering the city with gates for entry. Inside are buildings along with a large pond in the middle, including the palace, where Isa lives.
At the back of the Sky City palace, there is small floating island with a crafting table, pond, a cobblestone generator, and a singular tree.
Sky City is a unique settlement suspended high above the ground, characterized by a structured and hierarchical culture. The city is built entirely on floating islands, and its residents adhere to strict rules to ensure the stability and safety of their environment. Resource conservation is highly valued due to the limited availability of materials.
The culture places significant emphasis on law and order, with the citizens living under regulations meant to preserve the delicate balance of their floating city. The concept of freedom and exploration beyond the city is largely discouraged, as leaving Sky City is seen as risky and unnecessary.
Sky City is governed by a centralized authority under the leadership of the Founder, Isa. As the city's leader, Isa enforces strict laws and regulations to maintain order and ensure the safety of the city. These laws primarily revolve around the use of resources. Activities such as building and breaking blocks, crafting, smelting, and cooking are strictly regulated to prevent waste and ensure resources are used efficiently. Any use of resources without explicit permission is prohibited.
The governance is supported by a group of guards tasked with upholding the laws and addressing violations. However, the regulations and restrictions under her rule have led to discontent among some residents, such as those in the Build Club, who secretly defy the regulations in pursuit of creative freedom.
Following the events of Order Up!, the administration of Sky City may evolve to reflect a more open and inclusive governance structure depending on who Jesse sided with at the end.
Jesse: Is it always like this? Everyone waiting in line just to bake bread?
Townsperson: Usually, yeah. But at least people get their wheat allowance on different days to keep the lines down.
Jesse: โWheat allowanceโ?
Townsperson: Well, yeah? Once every, I dunno, couple of days, the Founder gives out all the wheat thatโs been harvested. Itโs usually right after iron block day.
Jesse: โAppointmentโ? Why would I need an appointment to use a furnace?
Guard: By city law, acts of crafting are only authorized with the Founderโs permission. The appointment system is in place to safeguard against any illegal building or crafting.
Guard: If you wish to make an appointment, speak to the Founder. Good day.
Jesse: No building, no crafting, no brewing, no forging, unless with EXPRESS PERMISSION from The Founder. All complaints must be registered in person. Thatโs it, you can stop writing now.
Jesse: So, Iโm curious... What kind of stuff do you guys do for fun around here?
Reggie: Oh... all sorts of things. Make wishlists of resources, practice low-inventory builds. Some people do poetry... Itโs a pretty great place to live.
Jesse: Fancy duds youโre wearing, Reginald. Is that a uniform?
Reggie: I try not to brag about it, but Iโm actually the Captain of the Guard... One of the reasons Iโm allowed to supervise a build like this one.
Guard: Why, this is no ordinary garden, stranger! The dirt here is precious -- this garden feeds almost everybody in town. If even one block were to drop over the edge... Hoo. Catastrophe.
Sky City originally starting as small cluster of islands with a tree is a reference to Skyblock, a popular Minecraft minigame. The game files also refer Sky City as Skyblock.
PAMA mentions about the adventures they had. One of them says "A City in the Sky".
