Should we unify Stone Pressure Plate and Polished Blackstone Pressure Plate similar to how the Wooden Pressure Plates are unified?
They are the same in all aspects except for being a crafting ingredient and generating naturally.

- The current rule of thumb seems to have articles on derivatives be separate if the source materials have separate articles. There are no separate articles on planks, but there are on stone and on polished blackstone. Both are basically stones, though they are genetically distinct (they only occur in different dimensions) and the latter is a processed form, whereas the regular stone occurs naturally. I do agree that there are no usage differences altogether, and the player’s choice between the two would only be a matter of aesthetics and/or available resources.
- If the merge is to occur, then it’s better to merge the two weighted pressure plates as well. This would be more consistent as the three articles would describe pressure plate variant groupings with a distinct operation mode: plates reacting to all entities on one article, plates only reacting to players and mobs on other, and the third covering plates that emit a signal of varying strength depending on how many entities there are. — BabylonAS 07:24, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Oppose if we don't merge the 2 stone buttons, 39 stone slabs, 36 stone stairs, and 25 stone walls,

Support if we also merge the 2 stone buttons, 39 stone slabs, 36 stone stairs, and 25 stone walls.
- Why? Because they are all identically the same in aspects and functionality as with stone pressure plates and stone buttons.
- Stone pressure plates: - same functionality in redstone, preferred tool is a pickaxe and not an axe.
- Stone buttons: - same functionality in redstone, preferred tool is a pickaxe and not an axe.
- Stone & brick walls: - same functionality in all, preferred tool is a pickaxe and not an axe.
- Stone & brick stairs: - same functionality and differences from wooden variants. Use a pickaxe and not an axe. Cannot oxidize unlike copper stairs. Obtainable in stonecutter unlike bamboo mosaic stairs.
- Stone & brick slabs: - same functionality and differences from wooden variants. Use a pickaxe and not an axe. Cannot oxidize unlike copper slabs. Obtainable in stonecutter unlike bamboo mosaic slabs. Some can be used to create chiseled full blocks, but unlike wooden slab crafting usages.
- We cannot merge one without merging the rest, as that would be inconsistent, the arguments for merging these are all identical, so they have to all stay or all go. Stone pressure plates are a subcategory of "product variants of blocks that are the same shape", so the category level must be dealt with, not the individual level. - Walls, bricks and slabs are not the same as pressure plates and buttons — the first three are purely construction blocks, while the latter two are redstone components with clearly defined behavior. “Product variants of blocks that are the same shape” and other broad categories doesn’t take into account such seemingly-minor differences that can actually be crucial. The difference between stone and polished blackstone is important when it comes to aesthetics, but it’s not when it comes to redstone mechanics. — BabylonAS 16:29, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
- Minecraft Wiki:Style guide/Features specifies that tips on aesthetics are to be avoided "Filling this section with tips on architecture and interior design should generally be avoided.". As such, aesthetics should not be the rationale for keeping walls, stairs, and slabs split while merging pressure plates and buttons. Barring aesthetics, the functionality of all 5 stone tier blocks with common shapes are all identical, hence the same rationale for merging stone pressure plates and buttons also apply to stone stairs, slabs, and walls. The only differences with stone walls and stone stairs are natural generation and hardness values. In addition, the argument for merging stone pressure plates also notes "stone pressure plates are different in having a crafting ingredient compared to polished blackstone". This means the same also applies to stone slabs.
- These are all identical. The differences of stone stairs and stone slabs from wooden and copper stairs and slabs is pretty clear. Copper stairs and slabs have reversiable oxidation states, extra crafting and stonecutting recipes, etc., and wooden ones use an axe, common slab crafting recipes, and no stonecutter. The differences are identical to how wooden pressure plates differ from stone pressure plates, and wooden buttons to stone buttons, wooden door to iron door, wooden trapdoor to copper trapdoor, and wooden fences and nether brick fences. If pressure plates have common groupings for merging stone pressure plate, wooden pressure plate, and weighted pressure plate; then wooden, stone, and copper stairs and slabs also have common groupings, and by that logic, all wall variants would be merged. Agree with you on everything. The only logic I can see for any of those pages staying split is those generation charts, and potentially the breaking times. But neither of those is a problem.
- Everything else you said about the differences I also agree with. A separate page shouldn't exist if there is no reason for it. And for walls, the only difference is the material they're made of. Crafting easily covers that. With pressure plates, slabs, and stairs, there should be a stone-type page for each of them.
- So the full proposal would be:

Support if we also merge the 2 stone buttons, but NOT the 39 stone slabs, 36 stone stairs, and 25 stone walls There's a clear difference there. Slabs, stairs and walls are buliding blocks while buttons and plates are redstone components. It makes sense to only merge those 2 but not the others. MemphisM (talk) 18:08, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- The wiki does not allow covering tips for building blocks on main block articles. Aside from those, the stone stairs, slabs, and walls all have same placement mechanics and interactions as partial blocks. If we merge on redstone componets, then the building blocks also need to be merged. Delvin4519 (talk) 18:12, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

- Having a consistent approach to the wiki is more benefitcial for readers than to have different approaches for each page where the reader would not know whether to expect a merged page or a split page. We should not be merging and splitting individual blocks. Rather, we should be merging and splitting based on (sub)-categories. In this case, this is a case where it should be determined at the (sub)category level whether pages like these are merged or splitted. It is why in the DIG forum discussion, all items like these are dealt in a single group - "Blocks that are the same shape". Revisitng this discusison should consider them all the same way as it was dealt during the DIG discussion. Delvin4519 (talk) 18:26, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- How about stuff being part of multiple sub-categories? And one of such sub-categories is more important than the other. BabylonAS 18:29, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- We did not have a "Redstone materials" subcategory in the DIG forum discussion. Redstone materials would either fall under the "Blocks that are the same shape", or in the case of Redstone Ore in "Deeplstate Ore". Any remaining redstone materials would probably be part of "Non-wooden block variants". In the case of "Blocks that are the same shape" and "Non-wooden block variants", all had decent support to split the pages.
- We should not be splitting pages, then re-merging, then re-splitting them again. That is exactly the kind of thing that should be avoided. Hence it should be treated as an all-stay or all-go discussion (like the DIG forum discussion covering all possible arguments) to avoid a needless back and forth split and re-merge and re-split. Delvin4519 (talk) 18:46, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- That was not at all what I meant. I didn't say anything about building tips. MemphisM (talk) 19:14, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Oppose because the crafting recipes, IDs, and generation are different. Really, different generation is enough of a reason for me. --Simanelix (T|C) 18:52, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- As someone who does redstone, I don't give a frell about generation or IDs. IDs don't make any impact on gameplay at all. Any argumentation that bases off technical identifiers is not relevant to the majority of players. BabylonAS 19:00, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Yes. That's probably more important to non-editor readers. Non-redstone people are not very interested in pressure plate and button, since those blocks have no collision hitboxes and are less useful for building than slab and stair. This means that pressure plate and button don't matter very much to non-redstone people. In conclusion, the "redstone" style should take precedence here. Therefore, we should merge the pages. --Simanelix (T|C) 19:18, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Harristic mentioned that there will be a future discussion on page granularity guidelines that will result in additional merges and splits down in the future. I think it would be best to just wait until that discussion happens, instead of dealing with this individually. Since it would only cause more trouble and harm, as well as the issue of "what about x" problems in discussions with an ad-hoc, individual approach; instead of a systemwide approach. - No, this merge is ree huh tuh ruh ded. They're separate building structures entirely. I found this page by searching "blackstone pressure plate", this merge is unnecessary. Also filtering this chat section ^ just forces me to get creative with the way I spell words. Paint your walls with a shotgun. 2001:67C:2660:425:F24D:A2FF:FE74:2BE2 09:54, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
- i Oppose this change! why? because even though stone pressure plate does the same usage as the polished blackstone pressure plate, they both have 2 different materials. why would we merge those 2 even though they are different materials? here is a exemple of a GOOD and BAD merge request
- Good Merge request: Command Block, Chain Command block and repeating command block is accessible
- Bad Merge: Stone button and wood button, they may have the same usage but they are different materials!
- yah i know im a nerd at this. Douglas15amor (talk) 12:35, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
