A ghast is a supernatural organism ridden by piglins.

Appearance

[edit | edit source]

Coming in approximately 4 meters tall and wide, ghasts resemble floating deep sea creatures such as octopus and jellyfish. They are pale white and possess nine long tentacles beneath them; they have been compared to "huge white marshmallows with dangling tentacles."[1] Their faces are surprisingly human-like, having the ability to visually indicate their emotions via facial expressions. Ghasts appear to lack eyes within their eye sockets, yet they do expel ghast tears out of these sockets which have been likened to the ghast crying. The inside of a ghast's body is filled with active flames, making it seem as if it is hollow.

Abilities

[edit | edit source]

Ghasts have the capability to float in the air. They also have the ability to expel fire charges from their mouths to cause explosions.

Biography

[edit | edit source]

After Steve first entered the Nether, ghasts can be seen in establishing and background shots. Ghasts continue to cameo in most Nether scenes.

General Chungus' forces would arrive at Midport Village via ghast blimps, and would later chase after Henry, Garrett, and Steve using them. During said chase, the group would outsmart the piglins and cause a ghast to shoot its fire charge at the rest of the piglin forces, causing a fiery explosion that killed all the piglins in the area.

After Henry, Garrett, and Steve escape the Woodland Mansion with a new Earth Crystal, Malgosha arrives on a ghast blimp alongside a large group of piglin reinforcements including a freshly baked Great Hog. Malgosha steals the Orb of Dominance from the group, before ordering her piglin troops to blow them up using TNT. Henry and Steve barely make it out alive by hopping onto a ghast blimp to escape, whereas Garrett initially seems to have been killed by the explosion after fighting off piglins. As Henry and Steve escape on the ghast, it loses control and crash lands, presumably killing the ghast.

Utilizing ghast balloons, Travis places the Orb of Dominance within a beacon placed atop a massive Nether Portal at Malgosha's request.

As Henry falls to his demise, Garrett swoops in on a ghast balloon to save Henry. Using the ghast's fire charge, the two are able to knock the Orb of Dominance out of the beacon, and save the Overworld.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Concept art for Minecraft Legends previously used the concept of piglins taming and weaponizing ghasts, however the idea didn’t make it into the finished game.
  • In the files for A Minecraft Movie: Add-on are assets referring to a "chained ghast," a mob of a ghast based off the film's depiction. It is unknown why this feature was left out of the final release.
  • In the list of time stamps in the video description of a behind the scenes video, ghasts are referred to as "Ghost Balloons."[2]
  • The way piglins use the ghasts as transportation is similar to happy ghasts being able to transport boats and mobs in the game.
