An enderman is a mysterious otherworldly entity.

Appearance

[edit | edit source]

These tall and slender humanoids, coming in at about 3 meters in height, are eerie and off-putting creatures. Endermen bodies are composed of a jet-black material whose texture some would compare to stone or thick rough hide, along with a large pair of glowing purple eyes with square iris-less pupils. They appear to lack any further facial structure beyond their eyes, save for a massive predatory jaw with flat protruding cubic surfaces akin to teeth. While this jaw is typically hidden from view, if angered an enderman will dislodge its jaw as a form of intimidation. Their jaw, when opened, disconnects from the rest of their skull in an irregular way, having a large hole behind the jaw where one would expect the throat to be. Endermen have long human-like arms and legs that stretch and bend unnaturally, causing their center of gravity to appear weightless as they stride. At the end of their arms are dexterous fingers, which allow them to grasp and hold objects.

Behavior

[edit | edit source]

Under normal circumstances, endermen pose little danger and typically will mind their own business, albeit with notable curiosity towards creatures and blocks within their vicinity, sometimes even picking up blocks to interact with them themselves. If one were to stare it back in the eyes however, the enderman will become enraged, seemingly offended by the gesture. After enraged, enderman are hard to lose, as they will teleport around and harass their adversary with extreme prejudice.

Powers and abilities

[edit | edit source]

Endermen are capable of natural teleportation, allowing themselves to travel up to 32 meters in distance.[verify] They also possess a degree of psychic power, being able to torment those who stare into its eyes with disturbing visions. Despite this, endermen are appear to be physically weak and have difficulties defending themselves.

Biography

[edit | edit source]

When Steve introduced Henry and Garrett to his item stash, Garrett found an ender pearl in one of Steve's chests. Steve explained to him that an ender pearl can teleport you anywhere you throw it, however Garrett did not initially believe his explanation and half-mindedly threw the ender pearl over his shoulder. This immediately proved Garrett wrong, as the pearl teleported him behind where he formerly stood. Steve pessimistically and sarcastically said that Garrett wasting his one and only ender pearl was no big deal, despite the fact he nearly lost his life fighting an enderman for it.

Before Henry, Garrett, and Steve infiltrated the Woodland Mansion in search of a second Earth Crystal, after Garrett previously had the original destroyed by a skeleton's arrow on accident, Steve explained that the illagers, residents of the Woodland Mansion, had endermen who guarded their storage unit. He informed Henry and Garrett not to ever stare at an enderman in the eyes, as that will enrage it. Later, as Henry snuck his way into the illager's item storage, he searched for the aforementioned Earth Crystal, finding a plethora of unique items in the process. Once Henry finally uncovered the Earth Crystal, however, the endermen that guarded the storage room finally revealed themselves, and one of them would take immediate curiosity and animosity towards Henry. As Henry turned around to meet the situation, he was unable to help himself from staring the humanoid figure back into its eyes. As he did this, the enderman plagued him with visions of doubt and loathing from his new friends, including his sister Natalie. Despite these troubling visions, however, Henry was able to overcome them and fight back against the enderman. The otherworldly creature was near helpless to save itself against Henry's assault and soon succumbed to its wounds and died, leaving behind a lone ender pearl in its place.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • During Henry's fight with the enderman, he did not land a single critical hit.[1]
  • Within the enderman's nightmare,[2] Natalie, Garrett, and Dawn are all portrayed as having purple glowing eyes to match the enderman's own eyes. However, Steve is instead given white eyes, referencing Herobrine.
    • Torfi Frans Olafsson jokingly stated that this was due to a VFX error which was left in because of time constraints.[3]
  • In A MINECRAFT MOVIE The Junior Novelization, one of the illusions Henry sees in the nightmare[2] is his mother, who throws Henry's idea sketchbook into the fire.[4] In the movie itself, it is Garrett who did that.
  • Despite the enderman causing visions to those who stare in its eyes, they are unable to do so in the base game.
