A villager is a member of a humanoid race that are native to the Overworld. They are seen residing in Midport Village and play a supporting role in the film. Many actors portray the villagers on set, with CGI villager heads added in post production.

Appearance

[edit | edit source]

The villagers are a square yet humanoid race, with a long nose and a mono-brow, as in the game. They wear thick robes which reaches down to their ankles, and black boots. They are often dressed in ornate, stylish outfits, many featuring novel headdresses such as a book or anvil.[2] Due to the change in art style, they are presented with more detail, such as visible ears and philtrum.

Behavior

[edit | edit source]

According to Steve, villagers are a society of pacifists, many being vegetarians, who wouldn't hurt anyone unless wronged. As a result, they are very humble, the majority being monks who always hold their arms together. However, they are not without attachments or personal interest, forming friendships and romantic relationships. Several villagers of renown end up immortalized by way of statues, including a painter and writer.

Apparently, they generally favor bread. Many eat it, others share it, and certain villagers have many bread. This includes bread in sacks, bread in boxes, bread on their windows, and several plates of bread being eaten at once.

Villagers are also known to be religious, several (though not many) attending a temple. Similarly, they bury their dead in cemeteries.

Villagers seem unwilling or unable to unfold their arms (at least in certain situations), as seen when Marlene must hand-feed the nitwit a loaf of bread.

Culture

[edit | edit source]

Villagers ordinarily speak in unintelligible mumbling noises, but are capable of learning and speaking English. Marlene can speak the villager language.

Biology

[edit | edit source]

Villagers seem to be very durable compared to humans. The nitwit is hit by an SUV without any visible damage whatsoever, and another villager is shot in the nose by an arrow without bleeding.
