A sheep is a mammalian ovis-like creature with a pink appearance , prominently appearing as the first revealed mob in the initial teaser for the film.^[1]

These cubic hooved animals are covered in a dense layer of wool which can come in a variety of different colors, most commonly pink, white, and brown. At approximately 1.1 meters in height at the shoulders, sheep have compact flat faces in comparison to their Earth counterparts. Despite having their eye structure situated at the front of their faces, their eyes cross outwards to the left and right respectively. Interestingly, their dentition does not resemble that of Earth sheep, and instead resembles omnivorous animals such as humans.

Sheep appear to be docile half-witted animals that spend the majority of their time grazing upon the grasses of the Overworld, however they have been shown to be rather curious creatures from time to time. Though despite their curiosity, they appear to be naturally cautious and fearful, lacking any dependable defensive capabilities.

While it is not shown within the film, it is assumed that sheep can be shorn for their wool, as many structures shown within the film feature wool as a primary building component.

As Steve enters the Overworld for the first time via the Earth Portal, one of the first creatures he is met by is a pink sheep which bleats at him. It is later shown that one of Steve's earliest homes was built entirely of pink sheep wool.

Later in the film as Henry, Natalie, Garrett Garrison, and Dawn Runcie first enter the Overworld, a pink sheep is seen nearby which Garrett claims is their first "quest giver," seemingly initially treating this new world like a video game. Garrett attempts to make contact with the sheep by speaking Spanish at it, which the sheep does not understand, as Dawn points out. Garrett doubles down on the two of them understanding each other however, before night quickly falls upon the land which spooks the sheep into taking cover. As the nocturnal nighttime monsters stir and begin to prowl, the same^[2] pink sheep is seen frozen in fear by Garrett. Its soon revealed that it's fear stems from a horde of zombies closing in around it, who proceed to attack and rip the sheep apart as they begin devouring it.

Sheep are primarily utilized as background set dressing, and are featured in many background and establishing shots within the film.

• The prominent use of pink colored sheep in the film is a direct reference to the same rare easter egg in Minecraft, where a sheep can rarely naturally generate with pink colored wool at a 0.164% spawn rate chance.
• The death of a pink sheep was originally going to be cut from the film due to being deemed too graphic. However, it was reinstated following backlash towards the sheep's design as a tongue in cheek way to appease critics.^[2]
