Axel is one of Jesse's closest friends and a member of the New Order of the Stone. He is known to be a prankster and his former hostility toward Lukas. He is also a fan of Magnus the Rogue.

Axel has a huge build and is tall in appearance. He has short, black hair along with a unibrow and his skin is pale white. He wears a green jacket, black finger-less gloves, tan pants, and sandals. Later on, he also gains a helmet similar to Magnus the Rogue's, a chest piece similar to his former shirt with gloves and brown boots.

In Season Two, Axel's jacket is now replaced with a green plaid flannel, which is left unbuttoned to reveal a black t-shirt with a skull on it.

Axel is portrayed to be a joker who enjoys making people laugh. He acts as a source of comic relief, making lots of sarcastic quips and short one-liners. Over the course of the story, he is revealed to be a little cowardly, but is very fierce when defending his friends and will risk a great deal to protect them. He is, at times, loud and explosive and enjoys griefing. Axel is also shown to be a kleptomaniac, as he tries to steal small items whenever he can.

Hadrian used the portal atlas to travel to the world of Jesse and their friends and imprisoned Axel and Olivia in an obsidian prison. Hadrian then suddenly changed the terms of his deal with Jesse, stating that if Jesse won, then Olivia and Axel would work in the mines forever, but if Jesse lost, all of their friends would be able to leave, but Jesse would have to stay behind.

Axel is one of Jesse’s closest friends and is very protective of them. He always tries to help and support Jesse, and Jesse appreciates his efforts.

Axel loves sharing jokes with his friends, including Reuben. Even though they don’t spend an excessive amount of time together, they get along well. In The Order of the Stone, Axel even got Reuben an ender dragon costume for EnderCon. Unlike Olivia, Axel has more faith in Reuben’s abilities despite him being a pig.

Though Axel and Olivia are constantly portrayed as complete opposites and often disagree with each other, they never abandon each other in dire situations.

Axel tends to worry deeply about Petra. In A Block and a Hard Place, Olivia could mention that Axel is practically obsessed with Petra, and it is quite noticeable—he brings her up on multiple occasions, even when she is not the main topic of conversation. If Petra contracts wither, Axel will be visibly frightened and concerned. If she suffers from amnesia instead, he will ask her in disbelief if she truly does not remember him.

Axel and Lukas never had a very close relationship starting from The Order of the Stone. They argue many times because Lukas tries to take charge of the group, which Axel disapproves of. Their relationship noticeably improves starting in The Last Place You Look, and they rarely quarrel after that point. If Jesse chooses to go after the amulet in The Last Place You Look, their bond will grow even stronger.

Axel is a huge fan of Magnus, viewing him as his hero and mentor. He aspires to be just like Magnus, which is reflected in his clothing and behavior.

• Axel often falls on top of Lukas as a reoccurring gag. He does so four times throughout the game.
• In Order Up!, it is revealed Axel loves cake.
• Although absent during much of the second half of Season 1, he is mentioned frequently, as with Olivia.
  • In A Portal to Mystery, Ivor mentions that it was possible they could have followed the gang and went through the Sky City Portal.
  • In Access Denied, PAMA tells Jesse that it will make Axel and Olivia "useful."
  • He's also mentioned in Jailhouse Block by Romeo, disguised as Jesse.
• A quote by Axel, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is sad", references a Bible verse; Mark 14:38.
• Axel, alongside other characters such as Slab, Clutch, Emily, Fred, and Capital T possess a unique, wider build not seen with typical Minecraft characters, similar to the proportions of an iron golem.
• According to Eric Stirpe, Axel was originally going to have a pet bat in Assembly Required, which had to be cut due to budgetary restraints. ^[1]
• Originally, during a period when the game was aimed at older audiences, Axel would have been quite vulgar. ^[2]
