MINECON Earth / MINECON Live

[edit | edit source]
  • Initially organized as live events filmed in front of an audience featuring guest appearances, interactive audience participation, diverse panels, and mini-games.
  • Locations varied, with the events held in different parts of the world.
  • Livestreams often ran for about 1-3 hours.

2017 – 2018

[edit | edit source]
  • MINECON was broadcast live globally for the first time with MINECON Earth, allowing people from around the world to tune in.

Minecraft Live

[edit | edit source]
2020 – 2021
[edit | edit source]
  • MINECON Live was renamed to its current name, Minecraft Live.
  • Initially planned as a live event running alongside Minecraft Festival, but the latter was delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Livestreams often ran for about 1-2 hours and still performed live, but without an audience due to the pandemic.
  • Content included previews of new updates, behind-the-scenes insights, Q&A sessions, and news from the Minecraft franchise.
  • Updates were shared incrementally to address past mistakes, offering a glimpse into the progress rather than complete plans upfront.
  • Transitioned from live performance to a pre-recorded show, but still acting like a live performance. However, the livestream was still controlled live, rather than being a pre-recorded and edited video that was later broadcast as a livestream.
  • Livestreams became more brief, focusing primarily on franchise updates and announcements.
  • Fully switched to a pre-recorded show.
  • Introduced an overhauled, scripted format taking place at Mojang Studios H.Q. in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • Livestreams are prerecorded and run for around an 1 hour; the main show is a half hour.
  • Lydia Winters made her final appearance as host before departing from Mojang Studios in October 2024.
  • Community votes were retired from Minecraft Live.

2025 – May 2026

[edit | edit source]
  • Minecraft Live is officially styled as "Minecraft LIVE".
  • A new after-show, The Deep Dig, was introduced, featuring Vu Bui as the host and Minecraft developers and creators discussing and showcasing the new features. Following Lydia Winters quitting Mojang Studios, there is no longer a designated host for the main show.
  • Minecraft Live is now a biannual event, with 2 shows a year in spring and fall.
  • The community pre-show was shortened from around 30 minutes to 15 minutes.

May 2026

[edit | edit source]
  • This was the first Minecraft Live to mark the return of an actual live broadcast since Minecraft Live 2022 (albeit a very small section), following the switch to pre-recorded form beginning with Minecraft Live 2023.
    • Consequently this was also the first Minecraft Live to be an in-person live show since MINECON Live 2019, being held at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.
    • Additionally this was also the first Minecraft Live to be broadcasted live from a convention since MINECON 2016, that were held at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Community Vote

[edit | edit source]
Main article: Community Vote

The Community Vote was an annual event and community poll that took place during or just before Minecraft LIVE events.

It allowed viewers to vote for a new mob or biome to be added to the game in a future update.

Developer speakers

[edit | edit source]

According to Ulraf, the developers that make an appearance at a given Minecraft LIVE to announce new features are the developers of said features, though occasionally this isn't the case to give different developers the opportunity to appear.[1]

Incident

[edit | edit source]

Before the community artwork pre-show and after the intermission screen, the Mojang Studios screen remained frozen for approximately 30 seconds.

After the reveal of A Minecraft Movie Squared, the livestream feed on YouTube unexpectedly crashed. However, the livestream feed on Twitch and the vertical version on YouTube remained operational. The livestream was later cut and re-uploaded on YouTube.

The pre-show started 6 minutes late, beginning on rather than its scheduled start time (). During the delay, the intermission screen's audio was cut unexpectedly, then the Minecraft Live theme song began playing for 3 seconds and then cut unexpectedly again.
