The Super Duper Graphics Pack is a cancelled graphics upgrade that was formerly in development for Bedrock Edition. It was announced at E3 2017,[1][2][3] received further promotion at MINECON Earth 2017 with the Super Duper Minecraft Musical,[4] was delayed due to problems with the graphics engine and performance issues,[5] and was ultimately scrapped in 2019.[6] Technical cancelling reasons include the lack of physically based rendering, making the quality too dependent of lighting in the environment. Performance issues were caused by the more complex graphics being implemented on the limiting immediate-mode HAL rendering engine.[7]
Similar graphics upgrades without texture changes have later been implemented as ray tracing and Vibrant Visuals under the modernized RenderDragon engine.
The pack was intended to add dynamic shadows, lighting that streams through fog, movement in leaves, grass and other foliage, new textures for blocks, items, mobs and villagers, directional lighting, edge highlighting, specular maps, additional 3D geometry, emissive maps, tone mapping, dynamic exposure, increased draw distance, parallax occlusion mapping, and other graphical improvements. It would have cost around US$10.00.[5]
