Realms Hub

From Minecraft Wiki

This feature is exclusive to Bedrock Edition.

πŸ‘ Image
Main screen of the "Community" tab in the Realms Hub

The Realms Hub is a social hub for members of a Realm, where players can comment, share screenshots, and view player activity. It connects with the Xbox social features and also allows administrators to manage the Realm.

Usage

[edit | edit source]

The Realms Hub is available for all players that are member of a Realm in Bedrock Edition, for both Realms Plus and Realms Core subscriptions. It can be accessed from the Realm's page in the Play screen as well as the game menu while playing on the Realm.

Unlike a Realms server itself, which is hosted on servers owned by Mojang Studios, the Realm's social features are hosted on Xbox's social network. Each Realm has a private "Club" in the Xbox Network, making all posted screenshots available from the Xbox profile page for any member, where they can also be downloaded. Because it is hosted on the Xbox Network, the data is slightly delayed from the actual server. Furthermore, old story posts (usually past page 9) are automatically deleted.

The main screen of the Realms Hub has four tabs.

  • Community – includes most social features, found in the "Story feed", "Members", and "Admin log" tabs.
  • Timeline – an overview table of player activity on the server.
  • World – world management on the server.
  • Settings – organized in tabs, contains any type of settings related to social features from the Realms Hub, the server, and subscription.

Story feed

[edit | edit source]
πŸ‘ Image
Adding a story post

In the Story feed, all story posts from Realm members are shown on the right side of the screen, and a list of recently played members on the left side. Any player can add one with the purple button on the top. A story post can contain text, and/or a screenshot that is stored in-game.

Every story post in the Story Feed shows the player that added the story, and the time or date when the story was added. If the story contains a screenshot, the player can open it in full screen by clicking on it. Every post can also be liked with the button below, including the player's own posts. The amount of likes is shown on the left.

Batch notifications show for unread stories; on the corner of each post, and with a counter on the "Community" and "Realm Hub" buttons in the Play screen and game menu.

Players can also comment on every story post. These comments can only include text, but they can be liked by any player in the comments screen.

πŸ‘ Image
The feed moderation menu for administrators

With the options button on the bottom-right of a post or comment, player's can remove their own posts, or report them to Xbox Enforcement. Administrators can delete any story or comment, while other members can only delete their own. Other members can also notify the administrators about a story. These reports can be accessed from the "Feed moderation" screen, where they can delete, dismiss, or report the message. Administrators can also see which members reported a message.

Realm Events

[edit | edit source]

These new stories are automatically posted to the feed when interesting events happen on a Realm. They can be toggled off in the Hub settings by the owner. When multiple players achieve the same event in short succession, they are merged into one ("Player and Player discovered a Badlands").

The ender dragon and wither defeat events are "major events".

Members

[edit | edit source]
πŸ‘ Image
Members tab in the Realms Hub

Shows a list of all Realm members, organized on their Realm role (owner, administrator, player) and sorted on online status. Each player button also shows their player permission and a tag if they are invited but have not joined, pressing it opens their profile.

A search bar allows to filter on player names, and the list can be filtered for Realm roles, permissions, invited players, and activity (online, offline, playing on Realm). The list can be sorted on name A–Z/Z–A or on recently played.

πŸ‘ Image
The Edit role screen

Every player can open an information screen for each member, showing their Realm role, player permissions, and what permissions this includes. The Realm owner can change Realm roles and grant or revoke administrator permissions. Unlike players, administrators can:

  • Manage worlds
  • Manage Realm settings
  • Manage Hub settings
  • Add, remove, and block Realm members, manage invite links
  • Set member gameplay permissions
  • Moderate stories and comments
  • View Admin log

The Realm owner is the player that has the subscription on their account. They cannot be kicked or have their gameplay permissions changed, and have more permissions that administrators do not have:

  • Set member roles
  • Manage subscription

The owner and administrators can manage members from here, including removing or blocking them. Removing a player simply revokes access from the Realm and the Realms Hub, blocking a player also prohibits them from re-joining the Realm with an invite link.

πŸ‘ Image
The "Manage Realm members" screen

In the "Manage Realm members" screen (old UI), administrators can also invite players from their friends list, unblock blocked players, and change gameplay permissions for each member. An option at the top allows to select which player permissions members get when they join the Realm. There is also an option to remove all members from the Realm.

Invite links can be managed from this screen. They automatically expire in 7 days, but this can be disabled or set to a different time between 30 minutes and 7 days, with limited options. Administrators can also enable or disable invite links directly, or delete them.

Admin log

[edit | edit source]
πŸ‘ Image
The Admin log

The Admin log in the Realms Hub is accessible for administrators from the "Community" tab. Here, recent changes related to administration are logged. Each entry shows the date and time and affected players, as well as the specific action. The Admin log displays the following changes:

  • Administrator promotions
  • Invitation sendings
  • Invitation accepts
  • Save restoration
  • Add-on activation/deactivation
  • Invite link addition
  • Invite link join
  • Server region preference change
  • "Require Opt in to Timeline" change
  • World slot replacement
  • World slot activation
  • Player leaving/kicked

Timeline

[edit | edit source]
πŸ‘ Image
The "Timeline" tab

The Realms Hub also contains a Timeline table that shows numerous activity of players in the Realm. The playing times are colored for each player. One week of playing times is shown on the screen, but data up to 4 weeks ago can be viewed with the arrow buttons above. To gain access to the Timeline and store activity data, a player needs to opt in for the Timeline. Players can opt out at any time, and they can also opt in anytime later again. Administrators can view all members that are opted out.

World

[edit | edit source]

For players, the "World" tab shows the name of the currently activated world as well as the game mode (including Hardcore) and the thumbnail of the slot. For administrator, this screen has two tabs:

Slots

[edit | edit source]
πŸ‘ Image
The "World" tab as seen by administrators

This screen shows all three world slots, each showing the name, size, and game mode (including Hardcore), and the activated slot is tagged. On disabled worlds, administrators can activate the slot, which restarts the server and kicks all online players. This is not available for administrators currently playing on the Realm.

On the activated world, adminsitrators can open the world's Edit world screen (while in the main menu) or the Game Settings tab of the settings (while in the game menu). In the Edit world screen, they can change most game settings including add-ons, but some options from the regular Edit world screen are disabled. All settings can also be viewed in-game, but only some can be changed.

The small button on the right opens a menu for file management, also available in the Edit world screen. Here, administrators can download the world, replace the world with a local world (not available in-game), and reset the world slot to a new world, created with default settings (not available in-game).

Saves

[edit | edit source]
πŸ‘ Image
The Realms saves screen

In addition to the three Realm slots, multiple world saves can be stored on Realms. Automatic saves are taken at the end of every Realms play session when the server shuts down, or every 30 minutes during a play session, and are only retained for a limited time.

Administrators can also manually save backups on the Realm. These saves are retained as long as the Realm exists. Automatic saves can be turned into manual saves to retain them for longer. However, the maximum storage for each Realm is limited for manual saves; Realms Plus subscriptions have 10GB of manual save storage, and Realms Core subscriptions have 5GB.

Administrators can find the Realms saves for the currently activated world slot in the "Worlds" tab. They can choose to replace a world slot with a save, or to download the save to the device. Saves from disabled world slots are not shown but still add up to storage; saves can also include previous worlds stored on the same slot.

Settings

[edit | edit source]

In the settings tab, there are four tabs of Realm settings; the second tab includes Hub settings related to social features. These cannot be changed from the main settings screen. Only administrators can change the Realm-wide settings, other players can only view these.
