VOOZH | about |
Enchantments modify the behavior of tools, weapons, and armor, granting additional abilities or strengthening existing ones. A glint animation appears on items to indicate that they are enchanted.
The player can apply enchantments to items by:
/enchant or /give commands.Enchanted items can be obtained from:
In Creative mode, items can be enchanted using an enchanting table or anvil without using lapis lazuli or experience levels. Enchanted books can be found in the Creative inventory.
Enchanting table
An enchanting table can be used to enchant unenchanted items, consuming lapis lazuli and experience levels in the process. The player can only choose one of three randomly generated enchantments to apply to the item; however, there is a chance for additional bonus enchantments to also be applied. The quality of the offered enchantments depends on the arrangement of bookshelves around the enchanting table. Which of the three offered enchantments the player can choose depends on the player's experience level.
Anvil
An anvil can be used to combine the enchantments of two like items, or an item and an enchanted book; one of the items is always sacrificed in the process. Combining items in an anvil costs experience levels; the amount depends on the enchantments of the sacrificed item, and the number of times the items have been used in an anvil.
Trading
Some villagers sell enchanted equipment or books. Armorer, fisherman, fletcher, toolsmith, and weaponsmith villagers sell enchanted tools, weapons, or armor with non-treasure enchantments. Librarian villagers sell enchanted books that can have almost any enchantment, including most treasure enchantments, but excluding the Soul Speed, Swift Sneak, and Wind Burst enchantments.
Bartering
Piglins can trade enchanted books or iron boots with a random level of Soul Speed when given gold ingots.
Fishing
Enchanted books, bows, and fishing rods can be obtained from fishing up treasure loot.
Mob drops
Some mobs can spawn with enchanted weapons or armor, which have an 8.5% chance of dropping if the mob is killed by a player.
Generated loot
Most structures that contain loot chests have a chance of generating enchanted books or items.
Raids
In Bedrock Edition, pillagers and vindicators spawned during a raid have a chance to spawn with enchanted weapons or armor, which have a chance of dropping if the mob is killed by a player.
The effects of enchantments vary significantly. Some enchantments increase protection against specific types of damage, others increase damage dealt to certain classes of mobs. Some enchantments grant unique abilities such as summoning a lightning bolt or turning water into ice blocks. See ยง List of enchantments.
Many enchantments have multiple levels. Generally, the higher the level, the more potent the enchantment's effects are. Levels are stylized as Roman numerals (I, II, III,...). The minimum level of any enchantment is I; the maximum level depends on the enchantment. When applied using /give, which ignores regular maximum levels, the maximum allowed level for any enchantment is 255.[1]
Some enchantments are incompatible with one another. This means that it is not possible for the player to apply both conflicting enchantments to the same item using standard methods, including /enchant, although /give can force conflicting enchantments onto the same item with varying results to their effects. Enchanting tables and generated loot do not produce items with conflicting enchantments, and attempting to combine conflicting enchantments in an anvil results in the sacrificed item's incompatible enchantment being lost.
Some enchantments are incompatible with certain items. For example, Protection, which decreases damage, cannot be applied to swords or axes, and Sharpness, which increases attack damage cannot be applied to armor.
Primary and secondary items
An enchantment's primary items are the set of items that can receive the enchantment from an enchanting table. Some items that cannot receive a particular enchantment from an enchanting table can still have the enchantment applied to them by combining the item with an enchanted book in an anvil; these are the enchantment's secondary items.
Treasure enchantments cannot be obtained through an enchanting table, and are never found on natural equipment worn by mobs or on enchanted equipment traded by villagers. Most treasure enchantments, however, can be generated on enchanted books sold by librarians. If a treasure enchantment is tradable, it has double the price (before capping to 64 emeralds) compared to a non-treasure enchantment of the same level.
Some treasure enchantments, such as Soul Speed, Swift Sneak, and Wind Burst, can only be obtained in specific structures or through a specific game mechanic.
Curse enchantments apply negative modifiers to items and cannot be removed once applied. Attempting to disenchant an item with curse enchantments removes all other enchantments, except for the curse enchantments.
Enchantments can be removed from an item by combining it with another item in the grindstone or in the crafting grid. These methods of disenchanting items do not remove curse enchantments from items.
Each enchantment in the table below includes attributes that are possible for the player to acquire legitimately in Survival mode. Other combinations are possible in Creative mode or with cheats, mods, or third-party software.

The table below shows which enchantments can be applied to particular items.
The tables below show which enchantments can be obtained through an enchanting table, and which can only be applied through an anvil.
Using /give, items can be enchanted at higher levels than in vanilla gameplay. Some enchantments continue to increase their effectiveness at higher levels. However, there is a point where higher levels no longer increase effectiveness. The table below shows the effective limits for enchantments (also found here).

minecraft:enchantable must exist on an item for it to be able to be enchanted in an enchanting table. If present on an item, the color of the item name is aqua if its rarity is common or uncommon, and light purple if its rarity is rare or epic. If present on an item, the enchantments are listed in the item's tooltip. The order of the enchantments in the tooltip is defined by the #minecraft:tooltip_order enchantment tag.

| 12w23a | Enchantment levels are slightly exponential again. | ||||||
| It now takes 825 experience to reach level 30. | |||||||
