Sharpness is an enchantment applied to swords, axes, and spears that increases melee damage.
Sharpness can be obtained from enchanting tables, drops from mobs that have spawned in a raid,β[Bedrock Edition only] books obtained by fishing, monster room chests, librarian villagers, and non-village structure loot.
Certain levels of Sharpness cannot be received directly through the enchanting table on certain equipment tiers, because their enchantability does not meet the required threshold.
Tiers that cannot receive Sharpness V can have it applied to them by use of an anvil, or can be found naturally enchanted with it through certain structure loot.
In Java Edition, Sharpness adds 1HPπ π
extra damage for the first level and 0.5HPπ β€οΈ
Γ 0.25 for all subsequent levels, using the formula 0.5 * level + 0.5.
In Bedrock Edition, Sharpness adds 1HPπ π
extra damage for the first three levels, 2HPπ β€οΈ
extra damage for the fourth level, and 1HPπ π
extra damage for the fifth level, using the formula 1.25 * level, where the value is always rounded down.
Spear charge attacks done using a spear in the offhandβ[Java Edition only] do not apply Sharpness.[1]
These tables detail how much damage is done per attack based on the level of enchantment used, assuming the target is not wearing armor and the attack is fully charged.β[Java Edition only]

If Sharpness is applied to a trident by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the weapon's projectile damage, rather than Power having this effect. If Sharpness is applied to a bow by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the damage of the weapon's arrows. If Sharpness is applied to a crossbow by use of commands or an anvil in Creative, the enchantment boosts the damage of the weapon's arrows but not its firework rockets.
Sharpness is incompatible with Smite, Bane of Arthropods, and Cleaving.β[upcoming: JE Combat Tests] It is also incompatible with Impaling, Density, and Breach, however in Survival these incompatibilities cannot be encountered, as no weapon types have access to both Sharpness and Impaling/Density/Breach. If commands are used to have two or more of these enchantments on the same item, their effects stack.β[Java Edition only]
