1.19.4 Pre-release 1 (known as 1.19.4-pre1 in the launcher) is the first pre-release for Java Edition 1.19.4, released on February 22, 2023,^[1] which fixes bugs. This is the first pre-release released in 2023.

Options

• Added "High Contrast" accessibility option, which enhances the contrast of UI elements.

Realms

• Added a notification system for Realms to notify the player about important information about their Realm.

Resource packs

• Added a built-in "High Contrast" resource pack that enhances the contrast of UI elements.
  • The resource pack can be enabled in the accessibility options screen or manually in the resource pack screen.
  • Only available in the menus for now.

Tags

• Added following block and item tag:
  • #smelts_to_glass: contains sand, and red_sand.
    • Items with this tag give glass when smelted in a furnace.
• Added following entity tag:
  • #fall_damage_immune: contains iron_golem, snow_golem, shulker, allay, bat, bee, blaze, cat, chicken, ghast, phantom, magma_cube, ocelot, parrot, and wither.
    • Entity types with this tag do not take fall damage.
• Added following damage type tags:
  • #always_hurts_ender_dragons: contains #is_explosion.
    • Damage types with this tag always hurt the ender dragon.
  • #bypasses_cooldown: empty in vanilla.
    • Damage types with this tag bypass the regular invincibility time after taking damage.

Froglight

• Sounds when placing or breaking the block are now less loud.

Sculk sensor

• The item_interact_finish event now has a vibration frequency of 2 instead of 14.

Potions

• No longer have an enchantment glint due to it obscuring the color of the potion contents.

General

• The enchantment glint for items in the inventory has been made more visible.

/execute

• New sub-command positioned over, for finding positions on top of a heightmap. Changes the height of the execution position to be on top of the given heightmap. Syntax:
  • ... positioned over <heightmap> -> execute
    • <heightmap>: A heightmap records the highest position in a column of blocks according to some criteria. Available options:
      • world_surface: Any non-air block.
      • motion_blocking: Any motion blocking material (e.g. ignores flowers and grass).
      • motion_blocking_no_leaves: Any non-leaf motion blocking material.
      • ocean_floor: Any non-fluid motion blocking material.

Create New World

• The appearance of the tab bar has been updated.
  • Tabs now have unique visuals instead of being traditional buttons.
  • The tabs now align to the center of the screen.
  • The content has been aligned to the top of the screen.

Options

• The default value of the "Glint Strength" setting has been reduced to 75%.
• The scrolling animation for texts in options buttons which are too large to fit is now slower.

Resource packs

• The resource pack version is now 13.
• The enchantment glint now has two separate texture files: enchanted_glint_entity.png and enchanted_glint_item.png.

Tags

• Added thorns, and #is_explosion into the #avoids_guardian_thorns damage type tag.

These changes only take effect when the 1.20 experimental data pack is enabled.

Pink petals

• Now mine instantly.

Torchflower

• Can now be used to craft suspicious stew, giving the player Night Vision.
• Can now be used to tempt and breed bees.

Brush

• Crafting recipe now uses a feather, copper ingot and stick in a vertical line.

Spawn Eggs

• Updated the color of sniffer spawn egg, to distinguish it from the salmon spawn egg.

Torchflower seeds

• Can now be used to tempt and breed chickens and parrots.
• Are now next to other seeds in the Creative inventory.

Cherry grove

• Pigs can now spawn in this biome.
• Donkeys no longer spawn in this biome.

Advancements

• The "A Seedy Place" advancement can be granted by planting torchflower seeds now.
• The "The Parrots and the Bats" advancement can be granted by breeding sniffers now.
• The "Two by Two" advancement now requires breeding a sniffer.

Recipe book

• The recipe for the decorated pot made of all bricks can now be found in the recipe book.

• Moved the #breaks_decorated_pots item tag into the experimental 1.20 data pack.
• Added torchflower_crop into the #crops block tag.
• Added torchflower into the #small_flowers block and item tags.
• Added cherry_leaves, and pink_petals into the #flowers item tag.
• Added cherry_leaves into the #leaves item tag.
• Added the #cherry_logs item tag into the #logs_that_burn item tag.
• Added suspicious_sand into the #sand item tag.
