"Middle Classic" refers to a period of Java Edition Classic that sits between the two developmental tests run in Classic, Multiplayer Test and Survival Test. It immediately preceded Survival Test (hosted on a different applet page to Middle Classic) and contiguously preceded Late Classic (hosted on the same applet page). It began on June 8, 2009, when multiplayer was officially released by Notch[1] in the form of the latest Multiplayer Test at the time, 0.0.16a_02, being moved onto the main game applet page (/play.jsp) from /mptest.jsp. It is therefore a continuation of Early Classic, which was what was on /play.jsp until then. Middle Classic lasted until 0.0.23a_01, after which Survival Test began.

Creative is the only game mode present. Multiplayer continued to receive updates during this period.
