The Warden is one of the most dangerous mobs in Minecraft. This tutorial will explain how to defeat this formidable enemy.

A warden is one of the most powerful mobs as it has 500HP👁 ❤️
× 250
and has melee damage of 16HP👁 ❤️
× 8
on easy difficulty, 30HP👁 ❤️
× 15
on normal difficulty, and 45HP👁 ❤️
× 22.5
on hard difficulty. Plus it has a sonic boom attack that ignores blocks, armor (including its enchantments), and shields with damage of 6HP👁 ❤️

on normal difficulty, and 15HP👁 ❤️
× 7.5
on hard difficulty. The warden is also immune to burning damage, knockback, and it cannot be picked up by boat or minecart. In fact, it is not designed to be killed by the player. The reason why you would want to kill the warden is because it is the only way to renew sculk catalysts and also you may want to kill the warden if you want to challenge yourself or as a last resort if you have no way to escape.

Methods

[edit | edit source]

Using a bow

[edit | edit source]

The safest way to kill the warden is by using a bow, but you can make it even safer by staying far away from the warden. Towering up at least 25 blocks can prevent the warden from giving the darkness effect or shooting the player using its sonic boom. You can alternatively build a pit that is at least 2 blocks wide and 2 blocks deep (optionally add 4 opened trapdoors to make the warden think that it is a full block) and then lure the warden into the pit, go at least 21 blocks away horizontally,

The warden got trapped inside the pit and the player is too far for it to giving darkness effect or not even shooting them using it's sonic boom

and shoot it using a bow (preferably enchanted with power).

Suffocation

[edit | edit source]

This method requires blocks and quick placing. This method will only work while the warden is emerging, and you will not get kill credit for it. When the warden is emerging, tower 3 blocks up next to it, place a block above the warden, then surround that block with blocks on all sides so the warden cannot escape. If the warden escapes before you can finish the suffocation trap, use the bow method to kill it or sneak away and let it despawn.

1v1 Arena

[edit | edit source]

This method will explain how to 1v1 the warden in melee combat on flat ground. Recommended equipment:

Attack the warden with a sword or mace, then when you take damage, retreat and rapidly eat golden apples and grab a new totem if necessary. Repeat this process until the warden dies, then collect the sculk catalyst and xp. If the player drinks Potion of the Turtle Master, they will gain Resistance and Slowness status effects. At this point, the player receives an extremely high damage reduction. When combined with golden apples, the player can defeat the Warden with barely any loss of health. However, keep in mind the duration of the potion effects and the movement speed reduction caused by the Slowness effect. You can partially counter the Slowness effect by drinking Potion of Swiftness as well.

Using iron golem

[edit | edit source]

An iron golem itself will easily be killed by the warden, but an iron golem can kill the warden if used correctly. Having at least 8 iron golems (preferably player built iron golems) is enough to always defeat a warden, also while the battle goes on, be careful to not touch the warden or make too many sounds near it as it will switch target to you instead of the iron golems. Alternatively a single iron golem can kill a warden but you will have to support it, the first way to do that is to keep repairing the iron golem using iron ingots while it gets damaged by the warden but you will need around 100 iron ingots to make sure an iron golem can survive long enough to kill a warden. The second way is to make a pit that is at least 2 blocks wide and 2 blocks deep (optionally add trapdoors too) then before summoning the warden, you should bring an iron golem into the pit, and then summon the warden and you must make it angry at you to prevent it from attacking the iron golem instead of you as it prioritizes players over mobs, then lure the warden into the pit and move more than 20 blocks away horizontally and you can just wait until the warden is killed and finally take its sculk catalyst. The third way is by towering up at least 25 blocks after the warden is spawned (make sure the you make it angry at you while/after towering up) and then build an iron golem and wait until it kills the warden.

Tunnel

[edit | edit source]

Get enchanted golden apples and an enchanted sword (preferably diamond or netherite with sharpness). Dig a 34 block long tunnel into a wall, then summon a warden and retreat into the tunnel. Advance and attack the warden from 2 blocks inside so it cannot hit you, and when it sonic booms you, retreat and eat an enchanted golden apple. Then advance again and repeat until it dies. If you let the warden punch you, it's probably game over.

Using wolves

[edit | edit source]

A wolf by itself is easily defeated by the warden, but many wolves can defeat the warden and can be a cheaper option than iron golems if used correctly. Having at least 32 tamed wolves without wolf armor can always defeat a warden, or 18 tamed wolves with wolf armor can always defeat a warden too, but you have to attack the warden or let it attack you in order to make them attack it. It is also recommended to set your spawn point near the battle so that if you die, because the warden will prioritize player over mob, then you can just sneak around it while your wolves keep attacking it. DO NOT touch the warden or make any sound or else it will switch target to you and kill you again, so never do this in hardcore mode.
