A nautilus shell is an item rarely dropped by killed nautiluses, or always dropped by drowned that hold them, as well as being able to be fished out of water. Nautilus shells, along with hearts of the sea, are required to craft conduits.

Obtaining

[edit | edit source]

Mob loot

[edit | edit source]

Nautiluses have a 5% chance to drop a nautilus shell when killed by a player or tamed wolf. This chance can be increased by up to 8% with Looting III.

Drowned have a 3%โ€Œ[JE only] or 8%โ€Œ[BE only] chance to spawn with a nautilus shell in their off-hand, and they always drop that nautilus shell upon death. In Bedrock Edition, this also includes zombies converted into drowned.

In Bedrock Edition, wandering traders have a chance of 8.5% (increased by 1% per level of Looting) to drop 1 nautilus shell when killed while showing the item as trade offer, if the player holds an emerald.

Fishing

[edit | edit source]

Nautilus shells are obtainable through fishing, with a 0.8% chance per attempt. See fishing for more details.

Trading

[edit | edit source]

Wandering traders may sell 1 nautilus shell for 5 emeralds.
