The jagged peaks are one of the tall mountain peak biomes. These tall and jagged mountains are completely made out of stone covered by a layer of snow blocks.

Generation

[edit | edit source]

Jagged peaks only generate on high mountain peaks in the coldest to medium temperature ranges. Depending on the continentalness, erosion, and weirdness, jagged peaks can take on many different shapes; small hilltops not much higher than Y=160, large singular mountain peaks, rings of peaks surrounding a valley, or extreme mountainous terrain with rugged terrain up to the generation limit of Y=256.

As mountain peaks, they are often surrounded by layered slope biomes, bordering groves and snowy slopes with plateau biomes like meadows and pale gardens underneath, but they may also directly border medium biomes.

Jagged peaks are separated from frozen peaks by river valleys and usually have slightly more rugged terrain.

They never generate close to swamps or windswept hills. When near an ocean, the surrounding terrain gets cut off into massive cliffs. River valleys are either deep fjords, or have no river biome and consist of elevated land biomes.

Deep dark is guaranteed below jagged peaks, generating up to higher altitudes. Above this, dripstone caves are common, although lush caves may also generate.

Description

[edit | edit source]

The blocks that make up the jagged peaks are almost entirely raw terrain blocks like stone with many exposed ores. Notably, emerald ore, iron ore, and coal ore is more common and infested stone generates deeper underground.

The terrain is covered by one layer of snow blocks which are covered by snow layers. Just like the snowy slopes, stone cliffs can generate in steep sides to the east or north with only a layer of snow covering them.

Pillager outposts are the only structures that can generate here, and they often form large foundations of cobblestone due to the tall cliffs. Goats can spawn frequently in this biome, and in Bedrock Edition, rabbits and polar bears can also spawn here.

With Vibrant Visuals, jagged peaks use default environmental settings with a coolish color grading, making the biome appear colder blue. They use cold sunlight, which is slightly brighter at sunrise and sunset.
