The dappled forest is a woodland biome consisting of spruce and poplar trees with red, orange, and yellow leaves, on an orange-brown grass and coarse dirt soil covered by leaf litter, red shrubs, and brown mushrooms.

Generation

[edit | edit source]

Dappled forests generate in cold regions of very little humidity and high weirdness values. This makes them border plains, sunflower plains, and cherry grove biomes, but never any other woodland biomes. They can generate in any type of terrain, on flatland near windswept gravelly hills, near cold oceans, or in mountains near frozen peaks. Their size can range from a microbiome with only a few trees, to a large forest stretching over hundreds of blocks.

Dappled forests are often separated from plains by rivers or mountain valleys.

Description

[edit | edit source]

The dappled forest is a cold biome that consists of poplar trees and red shrubs, of which the former is prevalent enough to cover the majority of the terrain from the sky. The biome's grass color is a saturated orange, which also affects short plants and sugar cane. Biome-tinted leaves like oak and acacia are bright orange. Fallen poplar trees generate commonly, and shelf mushrooms are on all poplar trees.

Other terrain blocks like coarse dirt, brown mushrooms, and leaf litter generate as part of the surface of dappled forests. Spruce trees generate very sparsely throughout.

Tree density is much higher in Bedrock Edition than in Java Edition, sometimes allowing hostile mobs to spawn at daytime.

The biome has unique volumetric fog for Vibrant Visuals, giving it a more dull and foggy appearance, subject to change.[1] The water color is a very dark blue, almost black, and more opaque than in any other biome. Underwater fog, however, is white and twice as dense.

Abandoned camps generate here, usually with a poplar. Cold animal variants spawn as well as foxes and rabbits.
