The barnacle,[1] originally known as Mob A or the "Monster of the Ocean Depths", was a proposed mob featured in the Mob Vote during MINECON Earth 2017, alongside the great hunger, the phantom and the wildfire.[2]
It was an ocean creature that resembled a gigantic counterpart of the real-world animal, and would’ve spawned in the deep ocean biome. It has a large mouth which it uses to propel itself through the water, and also has a long tongue-like tentacle used to grab players and pull them deeper into the ocean. In a promotional video for the Mob Vote, Jeb encouraged players to vote for 'Mob A' as "the oceans currently don't have that much content, and it would make it more exciting when traveling from island to island."[3] While the barnacle was ultimately scrapped, the concept of a water-based mechanic that pulled players down was later added with the magma blocks being given the ability to create bubble columns.
The barnacle was eliminated after the first poll, receiving only 23% of the votes.[4]
