Diamond chickens were rare joke variants of chickens introduced exclusively in Java Edition 2.0. They lay lapis lazuli and diamonds instead of eggs.
Diamond chickens spawn under normal chicken spawning conditions, but only with a 7% chance.
The diamond chicken's texture is identical to the regular chicken's, except the former is multiplied by the 31 DIAMOND color[more information needed] instead of the usual 16 COLOR color[more information needed] used for white wool and, consequently, the normal chicken color.
As chickens were modified in Java Edition 2.0 to display neutral behavior, diamond chickens are also neutral.
Diamond chickens lay diamonds and lapis lazuli instead of eggs. They also have a 5% chance to explode instead of laying an item.

Diamond chickens share their ID with chickens, with an additional DiamondChicken boolean to determine if a specified chicken is a diamond chicken.
Issues relating to "Diamond Chicken" are not maintained on the bug tracker because it is an April Fools' joke, and is therefore not in the newest stable version or snapshot. Issues reported there are closed as "Invalid".
