v0.9.0 alpha is a major update to Minecraft: Pocket Edition that was released on July 10, 2014. It adds new blocks, mobs, generated structures, infinite worlds as well as other features, changes, and fixes.

Monster Spawners

• Can hold several mobs
  • Silverfish
  • Spider
  • Zombie
  • Skeleton
• The type of mob spawner can be changed using a spawn egg
• Is available in the creative inventory

End Portal Frame

• Can be used as decorative block only
• Cannot be activated

Emerald Ore

• Can be mined with an iron pickaxe or better

Block of Emerald

• Made with 9 emeralds

Hardened Clay

• Can be made by putting a normal Clay Block in a furnace

Stained Clay

• Available in all 16 colors

End Stone

• Only available in creative mode

Red Sand

• Generates naturally in Badlands. Can be smelted into glass

Mycelium

• Generates naturally on Mushroom Island

Podzol

• Generates naturally in Mega Taiga

Packed Ice

• Naturally generated in Ice Spikes

Grassless Dirt

• Generates naturally in Savanna and Giant Taiga

Granite

• A building material. Can be mined using any pickaxe

Polished Granite

• A building material. Can be mined using any pickaxe

Andesite

• A building material. Can be mined using any pickaxe

Polished Andesite

• A building material. Can be mined using any pickaxe

Diorite

• A building material. Can be mined using any pickaxe

Polished Diorite

• A building material. Can be mined using any pickaxe

Acacia wood, bark, planks, slabs, stairs, leaves and sapling

• Obtanied by mining an emerald ore block

Spawn Eggs^[1]

• Added Mooshroom, Creeper, Enderman, Silverfish, Skeleton, Slime, Spider, Villager, Zombie, Zombie Pigman and Wolf spawn eggs.

Endermen

• Do not drop Ender pearls

Villagers

• Cannot open doors or trade yet.

Slimes

• Do not drop slimeballs.

Wolves

• Can be tamed using a bone.

Silverfish

• Changed AI.

Port of Minecraft Java Edition world generation as of Java Edition 1.8, allowing for new generated structures and biomes

    • After going past ±32,767, distance effects start to take appear.^[5] The "jitteriness" gradually increases when the distance from the center is increased every power of 2, as well as frequency of crashes and other glitches such as distorted block models.
    • Eventually, natural phenomena such as the Stripe Lands and Far Lands occur, making it impossible to continue without using 3rd party tools. ^[6][7][8]

• No more client-side messages when a player joins
• "Edit" and "New" buttons no longer appear on the world select menu if "Play with touch" is disabled, making it impossible to create worlds without enabling the option.
• The Xperia Play touchpad can no longer be used to control the camera and crouch. Instead, it is used to move.
• In flight mode, the Xperia Play D-pad up and down buttons are always used to control the altitude, rather than only while the cross button is pressed.
  • This requires to use the touchpad to move forward and backward during flight.
• Pause menu options on the Xperia Play can be selected with the D-pad and interacted with by pressing the cross button, though the selected option is not highlighted.

6 bugs fixed

From released versions before 0.9.0

• Mipmapping makes fire look like a big orange blob^[10]
• Minecart in multiplayer problems^[11]
• Glitched name and description for baked potatoes
• Crafting signs only giving one unit
• Different wood types convert to same inside furnaces
• Fixed an item duplication glitch that could occur if the game crashed or if the player exited out of Minecraft without saving the world.
