The meadow is an elevated grassy mountain slope and plateau biome filled with patches of flowers, turquoise-green grass and tall grass, where sheep, donkeys and rabbits spawn.

Generation

[edit | edit source]

Meadows generate on the slope of mountains, standalone on plateaus, or as valleys inside mountain rings, in the medium and cold temperature zones. This allows for a wide variety in shapes and terrain; they can often generate as "microbiomes" of only a few blocks wide; as plateaus stretching hundreds of blocks; or a thin slope surrounding massive mountains. Meadow biomes can also form mountain rings on their own.

On the valley side of meadows, they border flower forests, plains, forests, birch forests, and taigas while they border jagged peaks, snowy slopes, and groves on the mountain side. They can border cherry groves, savanna plateaus, or any snowy biome when the temperature changes, and forests or pale gardens when humidity increases.

Mountains with meadows are often separated from cherry grove and frozen peaks mountains or sunflower plains by rivers or dry valleys.

Description

[edit | edit source]

The meadow is a high altitude counterpart to the plains biome. It is covered by most flowers controlled by a gradient, meaning that it can continue for hundreds of blocks with the same type of flower. In addition to this, the ground is covered by lots of short grass and wildflowers, along with some tall grass.

Rarely, a lone oak or birch tree of any size can generate and always has a bee nest. Both pillager outposts and plains villages can generate in this biome, making this the only mountain biome where villages can generate. In Java Edition, unlike most overworld biomes, sugar canes and pumpkin patches cannot generate here. Abandoned camps sometimes generate in meadows.[upcoming: Third Drop 2026]

Just like other mountain biomes, emerald ores can be found in meadows, especially at higher altitudes, and both coal and iron ores are commonly found here. Infested block blobs also naturally generate in meadows.

In Bedrock Edition, meadows are cold and allow snowfall above Y=200±8, however, this never occurs on natural terrain.

The only passive mobs that can spawn here are rabbits, sheep, and occasionally donkeys.

The following mobs naturally spawn here:
