A heavy weighted pressure plate is a type of pressure plate that produces a redstone signal while one or more entities stand on it. Depending on how many entities are detected, the outputted signal strength will range from 1 to 15.

Obtaining

[edit | edit source]

Breaking

[edit | edit source]

A heavy weighted pressure plate can be mined with anything, but pickaxes are the fastest. A heavy weighted pressure plate also breaks and drops itself if a piston extends or pushes a block into its location, or if the block under the pressure plate is moved or destroyed.

  1. ↑ These durations ignore any other influential factors (e.g., Mining Fatigue) and are measured in seconds. For more information, see Breaking Β§ Speed.

Activation

[edit | edit source]

Heavy weighted pressure plates can be activated by most entities (including players, mobs, items, arrows, experience orbs, fishing bobs, etc.) and emit a redstone signal strength that is equal to 1⁄10 (rounded up) of the amount of entities on top of them, up to a maximum power level of 15. Certain entities, however (such as players in spectator mode and markers), cannot activate them nor keep them activated.

In Java Edition, Item Frames and glow item frames cannot activate heavy weighted pressure plates but they can still keep them activated.[1]

The signal strength from a heavy weighted pressure plate does not vary with the type of entity. 15 mobs will produce the same signal strength as 15 different items. Note the heavy weighted pressure plate counts entities, not the quantity of items, generally leading to one entity count per stack of items. For more information see item entity behavior.

1.7.213w36aAll entities are now allowed to trigger heavy weighted pressure plates.
Heavy weighted pressure plates have been repurposed: rather than outputting based on the amount of and the stack size of item entities, their output now depends on the amount of entities (including non-item entities) on top of them. As a result, the stack size of item entities is now ignored: for example, dropping a stick item and a dirt item on top of a light weighted pressure plate now results in a higher output signal compared to dropping a full stack of sand on it (previously, the opposite would've been the case). The original signal strength values per amount of items are listed below:
